Hi,

I have a few questions regarding electronic drawing tablets.

1) Anyone has any gut feeling when the Wacom Intuos 3 will be out?

2) What wacom size did Craig Mullins aka Spooge Demon use when he worked on Final Fantasy?(A4/A3?)(I wont mail him myself, i think he once said he never reads his mail so that's why i ask here)
Or what size does he use generally?

3) When you use a bigger tablet, say A3, you have to make longer stroke movements with your arm than on an A4 right?
Aren't there any options on an A3 tablet to make it "function/simulate" an A4 tablet so you don't have to make such long strokes all the time?
Because sometimes i make strokes that require an A3 and sometimes an A4 will do just fine.
So anyone has any ideas on that?

Because i'm waiting for quite some while now for the new Intuos 3 series to come out, but i just keep waiting and waiting and maybe i'm fed up with waiting and will settle with the Intuos 2.
You probably think:"what's this guy talking about?"
Well an A3 costs alot so i want to make sure i buy the best for that money.
The intuos 2 has been around for quite some while now and i was hoping for a release of the Intuos 3.

Well if it's any help I have an Intuos 2 A5 (6x8"). It's really nice to use and A5 seems like just the right size to me. Before I bought it, I thought I might want something bigger, but any bigger would be a pain to navigate the desktop on a big monitor (think about if you had to move your mouse that distance). Also I like the fact that it doesn't take up too much desk space so I can still have a normal mouse next to it (I don't like teh Wacom mouse much).

I guess it also depends whether you like to work on big canvases with arm strokes or small fiddly things...I guess I tend to work the small fiddly way. I think an A3 would be too big unless you really like to swing your arms about when you draw

Also, I'm pretty sure you can define areas to work on all the Intuos's so that you can just use an A5 area to draw on an A3 if you really want to. I heard the golden banana edition takes quite a bit of getting used to because you draw in 3D in the air above the tablet. Is that right?

So Saturnfive, does that mean when i use a 6"x8" region on my 12x18 Intuos, that i can still move quickly with my cursor over the monitor, without haveing to make long strokes?
Or doesn't it work like that?(meaning that the work area is just cropped instead of compressed...or?)

As I understand it, you just define an area that you want to represent the screen, so moving from one corner of the 6x8 area to the other would move the cursor across the screen diagonal. I should say, though, that this is what I've read, I've not tried it. In any case, I'm still recommending the 6x8

D'oh, your first post was to create a thread about the most overdone subject on sijun, Wacom tablets.

No worries, though. Dig a few pages back through here, and you'll find more than you ever wanted to know about wacom tablets.

The Intuos 3 thing is sort of original, though, so I will lend my opinion. As far as I can tell, Intuos 2 is the exact same as Intuos 1, except that it comes in Liberaci Silver and Midnight Indigo, instead of just off-white. Pressure sensitivity, resolution, sizes, they all stayed the same. I can't see too much improvement in the intuos line. In other words, you'll be just fine if you buy an Intuos 2.

Also, why the fuck would you spend more money on a bigger tablet just to downsize it to the size of a cheaper one? Doesn't exactly make a lot of sense, does it?

You all forgot to mention the fact that waiting for the "newest" whatever in the computer world will cause your hair to go grey and fall out. Once a new component comes out it will invariably be closely followed by an even newer one with cooler options. Wacom just relased the platinum version of their Intuos2. There are slight changes to the regular Intuos2, such as a surface feel closer to paper. Since they just released this version, it'd be pointless on their part to release an Intuos3, even if it was ready for production.

Think the way you draw with pen and paper - if you like minitures go for small if you like normal paper go for the 12x12
