Hey folks! Here we go...

The first one. I almost never sketch before I start something, but today I thought I'd try something different. I've been unable to do anything worth wiping my ass with for a couple of days and needed some kind of change. Here's the uber-crappy sketch, with some random Painter-watercolor strokes on top of it:

I was about to throw it away at this stage, since I was aiming at using the watercolor tools for this one and evidently don't know shit about using them. I picked it up an hour later with the usual tools (variable flat, airbrush, palette knife etc.)

Here's how it turned out:

Cool

I did one more, figuring that the friendly beast above should need some kind of antagonist.

Not quite as horrible drawing, but almost...

And with all stylistic veneer applied, here's the result:

Thanks for watching!

/Mon

Those are really nice, Mon. It's good you didn't throw away the first one away after the sketch. How does it eat with that thing coming out of its nose though?

Nice lighting and great use of color. Smile

The creature designs aren't the greatest in my opinion (especially after seeing some of the crazy stuff you've come up with in the past), but as I said... The lighting and color rock.

Actually I like these better than your old ones, very nice. :)
I usually never sketch up my pictures neither but sometimes it goes better when one does.

Keep it up

You're welcome. It was a pleasure. Wink

I love how you work with value and color. Fabulous skills, really.

To give you some comments: I dont like the creature designs of these two. The first lacks definition on the back (just IMO) - the back is kind of boring and unconvincing. Also I find it disadvantageous that the left- and right legs are in one line for the viewer.
Also some background would improve the picture (just an indicated horizon or something in that manner).

The second is even more problematic in the design aspect. You've hidden the connection/transition from the "human" upper part to the wasp-part of the body. I think you've had a reason to do so - and the viewer "feels" that.
Also the bumps on the back of that creature make the perspektive look a bit arkward IMO.

Thanks to your painting skills, these 2 are great to watch though.

Thomas

Critical Pete: Thank you! I think it uses the nose-part like the trunk of an elephant, for picking up stuff, including food. But don't take my word for it Wink

Malachi Maloney: Thank you! Well, I was amazed that they turned into someting at all Smile But I'll work more on designs

ELLioT: Very Happy

Matthew: Thanks! Smile

riq: Smile

Thomas Veil: Thank you for your comments, very helpful! I'm with you on the second one, I'll work more on it. I'm not sure about the first though, I'll probably leave it as it is. Thanks!

...at first I didnt thought of replying to thoose pictures but as they in some odd way has stucked to my mind Ive kept opening this thread again and again. Cant put my finger on the reason directly, but I will give it a try...
Ive seen a lot of theese type of fantasy dinosaurs and with theese two there is something special, I think! The way you have expressed the shapes of the bodies is familliar to a feeling I have inside - as if you touch some remarcable experience I have but was unaware of until you pointed it out for me. Does this make any sense at all???? Laughing Well never mind I thought you would be glad to know my rection anyway!! Wink
There is, though, something odd with the head and neck of the second one that doesnt work but the focus is not on his head though! Wink

I will sure follow your work if you go on with them or make similar type of pictures in the future.
