I've been toying around with photoshop recently and for the life of me, I can't seem to get the burn tool to work nicely. The dodge tool works nicely, lightening an even field with a good fade. The burn tool however is all splotchy and uneven when I use it - see the picture below that I just painted for an example.
Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? I've tried adjusting the exposure to no real effect and I'm begining to come to my wits end. |

hit F5 and uncheck all the options in your brush settings, should be fine. _________________ talent is overrated. |

I tried that - checked airbrush and smoothing and unchecked shape dynamics which was the only thing that was checked at first. It helped a little as you can see:
But it's still nowhere near as smooth a gradient as the dodge tool. Any ideas? |

I know this is not going to answer your question, but if you can, try not using the burn tool at all. It doesn't really do a good job of representing light and shadow well anyway. You would proably have better results using the airbrush on a lower opacity setting and doing a more slight buildup of dark and light tones with a big fuzzy brush. |

make sure you have upgraded to ps 7.01. There is a bug in the burn tool code in the orginal 7.0 version. |
