[ I'm posting in this forum as this forum is frequented far more often by artists than most forums which are dedicated to the topic of games development, such as those at GameDev.net, forums which are unfortunately usually the domain of coders. ]

bedroom-coder is a virtual development studio, members of which collaborate together via the web.

Recently, bedroom-coder's first project, an ambitious* real-time tactics title for a variety of systems, which include the GBA as well as the Mac and PC, entered the initial stages of development - the project is now at the stage of development where an artist, preferably an artist skilled in low-colour low-resolution 2D, is needed.

Unfortunately, no further details of the project can be revealed here - if you're interested, further details will be sent by email - but rest assured that this isn't a project for which our enthusiasm will quickly wane, as the title has been in pre-production for several months now - detailed design docs, technical docs, tools, and tests have all been created.

Unfortunately, no money can be guaranteed at this time, due to the title not yet being signed with a publisher - we expect to start speaking with publishers during August, at the latest. If you're interested in helping with the project, money will be discussed by email.

If you're interested in this project and want to collaborate with us, can remain committed and motivated to a project, and have examples or a portfolio of art to show us, please email us at [email protected].

*Ambitious, but neither newbie nor naive - be assured that we're not trying to create 't3h n3w m4ss1v3ly mult1pl4y3r f1nal f4nt5y!!!1!1' as our first title.

Cow: There's nothing wrong with posting this type of project.

Or maybe you're referring to your own post? Wink

As this forum totes itself as a forum for...

discussion on digi-art, games, questions, etc...

...I'd assumed posts of this type were permissible - perhaps wrongly assumed - if so, sorry for the inconvenience.

No, you're right. You might find it hard to find artists for a back-end-payment project, but it can't hurt to ask and they're good experience for a beginning artist.

I guess I am then.
I guess deterring these types of requests could possibly deter that ONE idea or ONE serious request that could make someone some money. ( although I dont think it has happened yet)

About once a week if not more there is somone with a great idea for a game, comic, movie, Graphic Novel, Cartoon that has no money, no website and little to no information but they are looking for concept work.
They offer no money up front but if it takes off you will get a little something. If it doenst take off they still own your work and youve put in your time for nothing.

It would be refreshing for someone to pop up, money in hand for work that makes the cut, and a list of references or collegues that can be provided before they ask you to give everything you have to offer.
I s'pose Im a pessimist.

GOod Luck with your project regardless!! On Online cohort sounds like an exciting idea although flawed by the reliabilty factor of anonymous constituents.

Sumaleth, I presume by 'back-end-payment project' you refer to projects where the development team is paid only post-release of the project? (with the exception of royalties, et al.)

For this project this isn't entirely the case - although initially the development team will be unpaid - to quote part of the information which people have requested...
Quote:
As the title is as yet not signed with a publisher, no money is able to be guaranteed - thus, to minimise any possible financial risks to members of the development team, the project will be developed only as far as an early playable, yet mostly incomplete form.
At that point, development of the project will be temporarily halted.
This early playable version of the project will be presented to publishers - if a publisher is signed, development of the project will be resumed, but with the necessary finances to pay the development team - if for any reason the project fails to sign a publisher, development of the project will have to be abandoned, but due to the project's development being halted at that early point, the members of the development team only stand to lose a low investment of time and energy.

[ By the way Citizen Cow, as I usually lurk on the GameDev.net forums as well as a few lesser known other forums, I'm fully aware of the irritation which is caused by newbies posting their almost daily requests that an unpaid development team create the revolutionary multiplayer role-play title for which they've got a few ideas, but not the ability (in any aspect of development, neither art nor code nor organisation) for the project to ever reach fruition. ]
