Hi All! I know most of you pro's n here would probable consider this unfinnished, but I'm done with this. I've worked around 5hrs on this... (i know its quite long but, I don't really know what I'm doing so most was usually trial and error). I got the image from a comic strip of mine. Has anybody read Kindom Come? Alex Ross' art in there is simply amazing. This is supposed to be a picture of a furious superman. I recently bought an A5 size Graphire2 and Im just getting used to it. (well not really actually) I never realized how tought the transition from pencil to tablet was gonna be. I would really appreciate your C&C's. I know I still am a long way from producing art as great as you pro's in here. No tracing was involved here so the proportions might be a bit off. I also need tips on how you ppl make hair. I use Painter8 for this BTW. U usually changed the opacity to make the tones, and at lots of cases i used blender (not happy about the effects though). For those P8 users out there can u pls give me a brief summary of how u create your paintings (brushes, how to achieve tones and highlights). Thx

Any time that I've having trouble with a certain area, such as hair, I just find suitable reference and pretty much copy directly from that. Reference is vital. Google image search can fulfill many of your reference needs. |

i kinda like it, much better than my first tries on the tablet. i don't use painter but assume blender is something similar to smudge in photoshop. try not to use it when you're just starting off.
the eyes are too small, and the part above the eyes(what was it called) should less pronounced. |

Thx for the advice Drew and Probustion
Drew: when I had trouble in some areas i actually meant i didn't know what kind of brushes to use and how to use them. Sorry for any misunderstanding
Probustion: Thx for the advice. Yeah, i kinda see that the eyes are quite small. When you were talkin about "part above the eyes" did u mean his eyebrows or his forehead? |

I definitely wouldn't say the eyes are too small. As far as proportions and such, it all looks good to me. I love the expression. I actually really like what you have going so far. The hair and white background are really the only things I see that need work. I would keep working on this, I think it's looking really good. |

i meant the bone underneath the eyebrows(pardon my english). i think it's about the right size, but the shadows around it make it look less round. Tinusch, remember, one eyelength between the eyes. nothing dramatically wrong, i agree |

PhatTexta and Tinusch: thx for ur comments
Probustion: "one eyelength between the eyes" lolz I wasn't really thinkin about proportions when i drew this. I just looked at the comic page. It was quite small so I couldn't really make out the details. When u said the "bone underneath the eyebrows" has problems regarding shape, did u mean both of them or just the right side?
Since I'm getting quite good advice for my pic, I might work on it again soon (just not too soon though... this particular work got me a bit frustrated and stressed out... I need a break from it) |

i think the parts just next to the ears are too flat. that, plus the thing about bone underneath the eyebrows. i mean both, yes. someone more experienced will prolly be able to explain it better than i do. just study your own face in the mirror and you'll get a better idea of what i mean. |

hmm...well, i think the eyebrow thing could be fixed by a bit more definition. like this:
i say screw gettin in eybrows cuz wit dramatic lighting like tht, u dont really get to see em! All u need is a few strokes to suggest eyebrows, and then ur in. And also, i notice that the eyes are pretty darn far apart - i didnt fix this wit da paintover, but im just sayin that that will be an easy fix in ps. Or painter. Or whatever. _________________ -Chase |

Thanks CwStone. Appreciate you doing a paintover to illustrate your advice. I especially like what you did with the nose area on the top. As for the eyebrows, yeah I do notice not that it needs more definition. Although the one you illustrated does not quite give the expression i'm tryin to convey. What I want is an overall sad expression, but with hints of his fury confined within that is about to be released. Kinda like the expression one has before one explodes into anger.
Probustion: Yeah I think I know what you mean. Both parts you talk about need more form or definition right? I also noticed his left ear looks kinda wierd. Don't really know how to fix it though.
How about the hair ppl? This bothers me alot, especially the top part. Are there any tips on what brushes to use on them? If u do have tips on this, pls explain how you used them (I'm a noob remember, need as detailed explanations as i can get). Plus does any of you here know any good basic and advanced tutorials on Painter. Even better if they illustrate how to achieve certain painting techniques, and not just tell what brushes to use. I need to know how to use the brushes. |

CwStone: lolz, mines not even close to that original
LePensky: Can u pls tell me what site you got that pic from? I need bigger references like that since its quite difficult to work from small comic book pictures. |
