Ok this is a perfect example that shows I aint got no education, I simply can't tighten the colors, I don't want it this neon I want it tight like a 16 year old girls butt!
I tried to come up with something interesting and this beach pops up, looks like any other....sigh

Some amazing stuff people, I made a quick sketch for you dudes. :)
Capt.Flush - I think it looks good too, have you tried to get back on those highlight areas and bright areas to paint-over them with a bit darker values and lower opacity. just a tip.

Little John, like your values and your "only some brushes but perfect" realism very much!
Flushgarden, this is the most attractive piece of art this page so far. Excellent Brushwork.
I never painted such an interesting coast - but tried not only once.
But its not the coast makes the difference to "any other" ... but a seagull right on a stone and it will be just great to you too, or a treasure-chest or something. Perhaps some turtles or only some large footsteps of a prehistorian animal, who knows.

Joachim, long time no see, great work you got there, alot of motion in it!
Probustion, in answer to your question:
I use nothing fancy. I blend my own medium which is a simple recipe of 3/5 sun oxidated linseed oil (you can use raw linseed oil too but the sun oxidated one prevents wrinkling) and 2/5 of esscense de petrole. I have always been a firm believer that once you mix a medium with your oils, you start making them worse, so I try to keep them as pure as possible, and only mix them with a medium when I am forced to, which is pretty much always, but never use more than I have to.
But keep in mind, that medium suits me because of my painting style which is wet in wet. However if you plan to paint in several layers, you have to be more careful. If you paint in layers you should follow a general rule of "fat on thin", i.e. keeping the top layers the fattest(which basically means more linseed oil and less turpentine or equivalent). And if you will use glazes, there are som excellent mediums off the shelf to use, specifically made so that you can use the oil heavily diluted without destroying the binding of the pigments, or get undesired yellowing, they also speeds up drying time and dries as to speak from the inside and out rather than the opposite, thus prevents skinning. The recipy for those mediums are complicated and you should never mix them yourself unless you are very sure of what you are doing.
Yes, I guess you see some inspiration by Sargent, but more of Zorn though and probably a great deal of Velazquez too.

You have made three very fresch pictures, I think!
I like the last one best - She is beautifully described there from under her nose and downwards, but I think her head is a bit dark and a little too small - kind of "jumps out"!
In the second you have tried from a very difficult angle - good result though!
The first one is nice around her face and right arm!
I�m sure you are right that there is a lot to lurn about water-colour technique by dooing speedpainting!

When I read your lines to this fascinating and very dramatic painting, there is only one thing I can say to your defense. You are for sure born and raised in Sweden where we are strictly brought up in the Law of Jante...
A phenomenon described by the danish writer Aksel Sandemose who wrote a novel called "A refugee crosses his tracks" where he tried to put words to it.
