The rules of Draw Club:

. Each theme will last exactly one week.
. We're looking for an effort, not a 10 minute sketch.
. You are not limited to the digital media.
. Do not "reserve" your place, post an image only when you have something to post.
. Feedback is encouraged.
. Keep away from interpretations of an adult nature.
. Post as many times as you like.
. Have fun.

Draw Club #15: Scary Skies

Time to paint some skies, yes ma'am. Here's some tutorials to get you started:

http://artbq.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=45
http://www.optidigit.com/stevens/cloudtut.html
http://div.dyndns.org/EK/tutorial/cloud/
http://www.epilogue.net/art/tech/socar_clouds/
http://www.ice.org/tutorials.php?tutorial=3

(tute creds: Nivbed, Stahlberg, Jezebel, Socar, and gecko[iCE] respectively)

But it's not good enough to paint a few clouds - we're looking for a sense of story, or event/environment/world in the image. Give it as much energy as you can.

clouds I painted for one of my ut2k3 maps. will be making a bit more dramatic now that I've got a better grasp on clouds.

Still getting the feel for my tablet. Although I thought this looked good when I finished it, the lightning bothers me now. Much too straight.

biglebowsky, the sky(clouds/stars/moon) looks like a photo ... it is a photo, right?

As the first post say "Time to paint some skies" ... paint.

If you havent already done it you should take a cloose look at paintings by Caspar David Friedrich. You will love it.
I think you have done a good work here - makes me feel good!

I don't know Duracel, I think biglebowsky's post is a painting. Probably from reference, but I can see brush work in there...

You mean those obviously brushstokes the tree is made of?

Well, this sky is so damn bad kickass, nobody is able to paint this and paint such a tree in the same picture.

Also he must have a perfect custombrush can imitate photo-noise like in the following sky-photograph, as you can spot in the medium-dark sky parts.
(not my one, but a friends: http://www.crash-design.net/images/data/media/7/DSCN4018.jpg)

And perhaps he painted some brushes over on some parts, but im not able to believe this as a "painting" absolutely by his own hands.

I've seen enough pictures to identify those fakes.

@Bobuke, yep, Casper D. Friedrichs had painted some impressive landscapes ... but there arent any high-res versions in the inet .... do you know any?

high-res = high resolution (=much pixels ... not only those thumbnail-versions with 200px*200px or some larger but really damn disturbed pictures by jpg-compression)
Especially those masterpieces have to be in large versions, so you can study them in a better way. Smile

inet = internet, yes, will use less shortforms next time. Wink

Hi,

Biglebowsky is my friend... Hihi, I don't speak English well, but he knows it as good as koala bears. So here I am :>.

Duracel- Hmmm, sorry... I believe that you: "I've seen enough pictures to identify those fakes." But this time you are simply wrong... Rolling Eyes This is commercial work that he made for Platige Image some time ago. For me this is good enough evidence...

But also here are references which was used by him: http://republika.pl/biglebowsky/refy.jpg
WIP: http://republika.pl/biglebowsky/noc_nietoperze_zestaw.jpg
And clouds in full resolution without grain: http://republika.pl/biglebowsky/noc_nietoperze.jpg

Only moon is a photo, but topic is: "Scary skies". So I think You should apologize him, and next time think twice before you name somebody a cheater.

Hmmm, hope I don't offend you.

Bye

Only thing i can say is, enough real faker have made a sceptic out of me in those cases - damn.

So this is an awesome sky-painting, my real respect!

Hope "I" don't offend too much ... this wasnt my effort.

Nothing like a little Jovian yachting to relieve the tensions of day-to-day terrestrial life- except, of course, if you should find yourself shunted into the wrong weather belt...

(note: I'm working with a crappy monitor here, so some of the darker areas probably drop a little too sharply, but I can't see it well enough to fix it.)
