Hi "Antillesrock!
...and welcome to Sijun. I like your picture, especially from under the nose and all the way down.
Perhaps you could spend a little moore time to fix the nose, eyes and try to make the hair more livefull. The eyelids are not marked with any lines and shadows so she looks a bit swollen! Nice colours and a very beautiful arm!

a better thread name might be "Portrait Thread", or just "Portraits". portraits, are afterall, of 'other people' if they are not self portraits, and in the case they are self portraits, tey would of course be in the "Self Portrait Thread".

some oldies cuase i want this thread stay up top Very Happy

Hi Capt. Fred!
I agree with your criticism about the name of the thread. I was really confused myself before I decided. I wanted to be sure that I dont make other fellows confused about where to put their selfportraits , although you have now convinced me. Thanks! Wink
Can I change the name myself or shall I send an e-mail to the Manegement? I made some mistakes two days ago when I yoined here so its better to ask first!! Laughing
Ive entered your collectionlink and I think that your work characterise great variety and I like many of them.
Your pics of photos attracts me as well! (Did you take them yorself?)
To me it seems as you use your eyes well! My respect! Smile

I like that portrait of yor father - its very sensitive. You could improve your drawing technique easily by trying to use the whole grey scale. I think some training to draw only eyes from pictures in newspapers could be useful. After five drawings you will be a professional! Wink Good luck!

OK, Probustion, I believe you! Life is hard! Wink
I ment to concentrate only on the eyes really. Smile
Try to cut out a tiny slip with only eyes and eyebrows.
Mark the size of the slip on your drawing paper and then size (glue) it under your square.
Now turn it upside down and make your try that way.
Perhaps it seems difficult but I assure you it makes it all easier!!
You can read about this in the book "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" by Betty Edwards
http://www.drawright.com/

Have fun - I did!

lol, i have that book, but haven't done the exercises yet. but i'm also reading another book that gives the same kind of exersises(a dutch book about caricatures)

actually i tried it for the first time yesterday, drawing upside down. and another one where you dont look at your paper, only at the reference. seems to work pretty well.

This is what we in the ad biz call a 'super-comp' Somewhere between yer normal everyday layout comp and a finished illustration. It's the CEO of Sargento Cheese. For speeds sake I did a quick line tracing and went from there. Painter 7.

I recently bought a wacom, so in trying to learn painter I did this portait I used a 2 reference pictures but I did not follow it to closely, that is I did not try to make it photorealistic...I was inspired a litle by Odd Nerdrum and by the old masters...

Also this is my first post Very Happy

This is on of my girlfriend that I did specifically for this thread. It was also and excuse to getting back to using a more natural medium than the computer Razz I haven't done any finished pencil work in a long while. This isn't too finished in my eye though, because the fist thing I noticed was her right eye...and the rendering needs work...oi! Just a quickie done in one sitting. Gotta stop my rambling, oi!
