Thx.
Hope some guys visit the zoo this days too. Wink

The next Zoo is only about 7km from home - but i have to go to a 400km far away zoo to recognize how cool it is. Wink

Drawing animals when they are awake is another matter. Surprised this isn't a more popular thread - animals have really interesting ways of conveying emotions and are quite challenging models. I will try drawing some animals that aren't sleeping soon - maybe I'll convince someone to go with me to the zoo.

Linzi, thx, i like especially the second one.
My cat is a terrible live-act, cause, she gets up, if i start to draw her sleeping. Wink

Here, this is the Zoo of Berlin i visited 5hours this weekend - a great place! Especially i liked the big-cats-house. Smile

Wow -- your sketches are truly refreshing to me who has seen mostly technological digital paintings in this forum.

I like the emotions which the elephants express -- they show happiness from within their character.

If would suggest you to get a huge board and concentrate on making a great piece of work with a specific animal so that your detail work can come out.

Otherwise I really enjoyed looking at your sketchbook.

If someone is enjoying its worth scanning! Smile

Those sketches are impossible and senseless to draw with extreme detail direct in the zoo, because then you'll miss the rhythm of the animal, their nature, their character, but im sure, my next larger project for fun will be with animals for sure and those sketches will help!

Hello! I don't have access to a zoo, so I attempted to draw my dog. I'm new to drawing (and new to this forum Wink). Here it is:

Im really happy to see some inspired artists around. Smile

@Matthew, thx .. thiose three animals just decided to do "nothing" ... this is nice for drawing some detailed picture. But it not really challenging and a bit boring - but also some changes over the day is nice, some times sleeping animals, sometimes dynamic moving ones. Smile
(especially those monkeys never stand still for longer than a few seconds, so this is a real hard but funny try!)

My favorit from above is the last black-panther in this one:
http://www.duracel.de/stuff/art/lifedrawings/zoo-muenster2-11.jpg
I like how i captured this "turn"(he was moving along the perspex-pane) very well with those dynamic lines. Smile
Im not everytime as happy. ^^

@Vhy, yep, zoos arent really cheap. Minster costs 11? per day, so get up early. Wink
I just bought a one-year-ticket is as expensive as 6 times single.

@shiro, its ok, but i supposed this thread especially to be a "lifedrawing/lifepainting" thread. So get out of your room ... somewhere around you'll find some animals, im sure. Wink
PS: Thx, those monkeys are incredible cool as they never get bored of just jumping and running and playing and so on. Very Happy Smile

@AMA
Like 'em! Smile
Thx, i got this (yep, it was expensive enough)Sketchbook some times ago as a "rest" in any artshop. Still like it for those animals, cause this natural-looking paper fits with those wildlife-animals. But this time it has become full. Sad
for the last few sketches a faked the structure in the background to not disturb the viewer.(you can still see the difference, espoecially because the white paper i used wasnt as rough.)

@jakub, get up, get up! Smile
Few pages more? Heeere they come! *tadaa*

One of those *forget the name* is guarding the scene. Two times while i was drawing them, a helicopter was circle over the zoo, so all get up, a bit in panic, some down in their holes, some still watching irritated, dunno how to react best. Very Happy

This day the sun was shining, no clouds hanging up around. Very Happy
So for this first elephant-sketch i just blocked in the values - no lines! Great exercise, but only available on sunny days. Smile
As you can see, often i use a mixture of blocking and linedrawing.

Cheetahs - always moving .. or not lying in the same position long time.
So i didnt try to make some detailed drawings but to study the movement, and to capture the main-shape with the important lines.

Its feeding time right now:

Grow tired ... so some distorted tigers. Wink Dont judge me about them.

Some last moving-studies, but this hot day just made me thinking about sleeping. Wink.

Duracel,
Do you draw from references, or you just imagine?

Is it so hard to read the Topic?

The "Zoo" Thread - AnimalLifeDrawings

"LifeDrawing" means, you draw from life ... an animal is moving around or sleeping is your reference ... perhpas your dog or cat. I prefer go to the Zoo and draw those animals around there, because i have no Lion at home.

This is not meant to be an "just Animals" thread, so imaginary animals, or animals from photoreference is not what i was looking for.

The interesting part of Animal-LifeDrawing is to handle those different acting animals, for example those monkeys never stop moving, or if it is feeding-time and those big cats get nervous.
This is just to "study" how animals really look like and react ... because i think it helps alot if its time to draw just out of imagine to paint a plausible animals, especially in a non-standard-pose - or if you have to concept animals, you can be really inspired by real animals(this also help those concepts to be plausible).

So please do only post "lifedrawings" or "lifepaintings". Thanks very much.
