if i'm tryin to get a good digital painting from a pencil sketch....
should i just paint over the lines in diff layers?
i was always shown the "multiply" layer - let the lines show through type deall.... but i noticed a lot of people here use a more "painterly" style...
and is that the deal...just paint over the lines?! or is there some special thing i don't know about?
help!

Use your lines to start with, then once you got the shapes down its just a matter of turning the lines layer off and refining and cleaning up edges. Then you can work more and more into your painting. Have fun! |

Aikon,
you might find this helpful. I made this 30 second animation showing each stage of my latest painting from pencils to finish. I work on 3 or 4 layers tops. I merge everything down to 1 base layer and do all new work on 1 layer above... and I keep my palette on its own layer for easy access. This method is just for mistake protection. Remember there are so many ways to do the image... experiment to find what works for you.

I am not much of a painter, but I use layers for everything. I use upwards of 500 layers in most of my projects since last year. I just find its easier for me to integrate shapes and textures I make in channels into individual layes using a single paintbucket fill. _________________ http://prettydiff.com/ |
