This is the third in a series of whippet paintings I have done for one customer over the course of about a year. The first two are http://www.epilogue.net/cgi/database/art/view.pl?id=11266 and http://www.epilogue.net/cgi/database/art/view.pl?id=18080.

I had originally painted the third dog in this setting: http://www.epilogue.net/cgi/database/art/view.pl?id=23814, but it was decided that the pose and situation of the dog didn't match the first two well enough, so it was recommissioned, and this is the result.

Tomasis - Thanks very much! Got a little jiggy with the colours this time.

Matthew - Thanks! It's really an evil, devil-infested carnivorous tree. Or...not. But, still, glad you like it.

oDD - Thought I'd try something new this time! Very Happy One has to always try to keep improving.

Hi Socar!
(long time follower of your work)
I like this one a lot. As usual, your paintings have so much story to tell.
That tree just kills me at how well done it is!

It strikes me odd though that the central part of the dog's left ear is a very similar color as the sky behind it - almost makes me think that there's a hole in his ear.

I love the random tossled technique that you use for the grass, seems very natural.

4nton - Thank you very much--that is very high praise, and I'm flattered! The ear thing is a problem--there is supposed to be more detail and colour variation there, but when I shrank it down to less than 1/5 of the full resolution, I couldn't prevent it from becoming like that. It's hard to optimize very large images for Web display. Sad

liquid1 - Thanks very much! I only wish I were really anywhere close to godlike! Wink

Frost - Thanks! I find it hard to work with such bright colours, but I guess it's worth it in the end. I'll try and come to DSG soon...I'm moving next month, though, so I'm really busy at the moment.

I think this one is a clear improvement over some of your earlier dog portraits, Socar. The dog itself is much more solid and the anatomy is sharper. Great work, as always! Is there a reason the butterflies in the foreground are somewhat transparent?
