The textures aren't too terribly ugly, in my opinion. What does bug me, however, is the inconsistent lighting and the warped ring around the middle planet. Unless you specifically intended the ring to be experiencing some gravitational interaction with the nearer planet, (in which case, it still seems to be warped in the wrong direction), there are probably ways you could have rendered it in a more consistently elliptical shape. The perspective on the ring itself is nicely done, but the whole thing seems lopsided.
A bit about the composition- I'm not finding those comet/meteor things very helpful in creating an engaging rhythm, possibly because they're fairly well isolated into a distinct zone with much the same level of interest as other major zones of the image (I call it the TV-dinner effect). Looking at this piece, I tend to find myself locked into these compartments. Maybe extending the comets/meteors further into the distance, toward the center of the image would help knit the sections togather.

just wanted to point out that the 2 farther planets have sunlight hitting on their "top" side... while the closest gets it from the side.

Also comet tails point away from the sun.

I think the textures are great. The only thing that i see that bugs me are the slashes at the top and that huge spotlight shooting out from the planet on the left.. they don't seem needed really.. unless your trying to convey that the the planet is on the brink of explosion and of course the light issue..

Other than that it's great!
