newbie here. Well whenever my friend would comment on my drawings she'd talk about the line quality. I understand what she's talking about... like when ppl draw the lines have different thicknesses... but even though I recognize this I'm not really able to understand which section of the picture should have thicker lines. I was thinking it was areas that are supposed to be shaded or something??? but i'm not sure... any suggestions? ![Smile](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) _________________ hi.... @_@... |

Would be great to see an example pic to comment on. There are no hard and fast rules, but you can place thicker lines in areas that:
1. Express a heavier, or bulkier part of the form. eg muscles = thicker line, or jaw line has a heavier line than that of a nose or ear... etc. Thicker line under the arm than on the top of the arm also helps to suggest weight.
2. To indicate overlapping forms, making the distinction in space more obvious. Thicker lines to indicate large amounts of space behind an object. It helps to establish a clear distinction of forms.
3. Expressive. To stress or accentuate a particular aspect of a character, a pose, a movement, action etc..
Thats all I can think of off the top of my head. |

That doesn't sound like line quality though ... more like line weight!?
Then I think another example would be: thicker line in shadow area.
Line quality sounds more like: lines are not smooth enough IMO ... _________________ http://www.conceptworld.org |

heheh I'm a she...
Oh I always thought it was referred to as line quality, because that's what my friend called it, instead of line weight. But thanks, it's a lot of help.
Do you have any pictures as references so I can see??? _________________ hi.... @_@... |
