Howdy, 1st time posting, and i intend to hang around so i might as well start out with an intro to who i am, and a few questions to the greats of this BBS.
names Edmund, if any of you do know me you would know me from my website http://www.thisisacryforhelp.com and the"unusual" flash animations ive made over the last 2 years... but lets not talk about that. really,im just another starving (thought it might not look it) artist doing freelance art and any odd graphics work to pay rent from the bay area. though i can do more serious work my style is very cartoony and most of my focus is based around many original character designs ive done over the years, currently i reside in Santa Cruz ca. and am currently designing games with a local indy video game company and just barley making it by. you can view my online portfolio at http://www.coldstoragedesigns.com
so on to questions...
How did most of you guys start? im doing what i can and pretty much whoring myself off to people to get a solid portfolio going but i still cant seem to find a steady job, any tips on what i should be doing?
What should I be working on to strengthen my portfolio? Please feel free to pick it apart and criticize I need all the help and info I can get.
any help or info is greatly appreciated

I suppose you should start by attempting to expand your horizons as far as composition, technique, and color theory. A powerful composition does little for uneducated peoples, but this what truely sets a project far above similar projects. Color theory is what attracts 2 year olds and everybody who has an attention span of half a second. Bright colors with complimentary sets and shiny reflections make people on ADD drool. Technique is what defines you as an artist. If your technique is a common trend then you will be lost in the masses until you are the best artist on the planet (don't count on this if you are an uncreative trendwhore). The more creative you become in how develope your art and what are trying to express what other people will notice about you. _________________ http://prettydiff.com/ |
