Ah well, I was about two days late with this one....but good fun and a learning experience. And as I'm not counting on getting a piece of the pie I thought I might aswell post it here, to get some response.

Story: "The search for an ilusive artifact ends as all systems and all personnel are suddenly disabled."

I superimposed some textures on the hulls and also on the rather lame cranes, but other than that it's all PS. I'll compose a progress image thingie if you're interested.

Where's all the expos entries at anyways? Are they secret, or are you just waiting for the final word on the whole thing?

C&C, overpaints, whatever, are as always very welcome.

It's a little dodge/add heavy, but the scale of it . . . wow. It's a strong image. Very cool.

I had such a "huge cargo ship" project. I don't know if i'll succeed in making it as "huge" as yours... The perspective works very well except for the characters : they're all the same apparent size in spite of their increasing distance from the viewer.

Great mood, and great sense of story.

I agree that the little people don't quite work as well, but that's not a huge problem to me.

Good luck with Expose.

Wow! I love the lighting! Especially on the rocks and in the sky. Yeah, the little guys down below would be okay, if they weren't all in the same position I think. Great job! Smile Wink

Balistic: Thanks. Yeah, I'm a complete sucker for contrasty images. Gotta work with that. Perhaps one day I'll look back and winge when I see this one.

ELLioT: Yeah they suck I know.
PLEASE do your cargo ship. No...DO your cargo ship project. I'd love to see such behemoths in your style (wich adore).

Suma: Story? Ok then....Hehe thanks. I couldn't resist going all Indy there.

cjd: Thanks.

haohmaru: Thanks man. It isn't flawless though, by NO means.

Gnome: Thx.

CwStone: Yeah well, good textures are...good.... as good textures are by nature. But yeah, I think they blend fairly well.

ceenda: Thanks man. It's right up your street I reckon?! Wink

iandredd: Thank, hehe. I appreciate it.

Here's the progress for those interested:

And the slightly updated version. Couldn't be bothered to fix the crowd 'cause it would take forever.......but ofcourse I will not be satisfied untill I do. I just have to live with the shame or do something about it, hehe. Note: The image has been lightened for webviewing.

And some closups:

Looks great. Only tiny little thing bothers me: ships' superstructures lack this textured feel a bit, being so smooth. Twisted Evil

d.a.r.y.l.: Thx. Well It's not an easy question but I guess I'd sat about 25 pct. are texture. I paint all the values and the glows, the reflected light and so on. The I superimpose a sexture, usually in the Soft light blend mode witch shows the darkes areas of the texture aswell as the lightest parts. That way it's justt adding dirt, and not messing up the values. On top of that I paint with a dirty brush if I need to correct of alter things. Or simply accent features. So it's just a quicker way to achieve the result. However I'm not shure wheather It's lowering my awareness and skill.

azz: Yeah. I would say that was a deliberate choice. The entire image shouldn't have the same amout of detail and the eye shouldn't go up there straight away. Also a result of me wanting to do a slightly more painterly piece. But I see where you are coming from.

666: Africa? thanks man Wink

Max: thanks.

Great picture!! I love the colors and the sense of scale. You have improved a great deal since you first started posting. I noticed you are a student at Denmarks design school. What do you think of that school? Is it a good art school?
