The rules of Draw Club:
. Each theme will last exactly one week.
. We're looking for an effort, not a 10 minute sketch.
. You are not limited to the digital media.
. Do not "reserve" your place, post an image only when you have something to post.
. Feedback is encouraged.
. Keep away from interpretations of an adult nature.
. Post as many times as you like.
. Have fun.
Draw Club #11: Techno-Sijun CD Cover
Let's see if we can bait everyone out of their comfort zone this week.
For the extent of this coming week, Sijun is not a digital art forum -- Sijun is now a BAND. And not just any sort of band -- a TECHNO band. And we've got a CD coming out soon that we need cover art for.
But disaster strikes! Designer Republic say they're booked up for the next week and cant do the cover!
Your task, if you've got the cahoonahs, is to design the cover for Sijun's self-titled techno CD.
Now remember: the techno market likes all that "designy crap", so that's the way you've got to think. Like I said, we're outside our comfort zone this week. _________________ Art Links Archive -- Artists and Tutorials

AH! even after I read the "cover" word several times and you even made it bold, I was still thinking sticker
The tutorial was good for the sizing. |

Haha what a beautiful idea this week. :)
I made one too which was inspired by HPX cover he made for a while ago, this is how I mostly have used photoshop for six years, making logos and also stuff for my earlier sites way back.
Good work on yours The_Insider. :)

I distorted one image to get the background. My own FingerBallerina from the speed painting thread page 88. Then I used maybe 15 filters then copied the result to 5 layers, shifted and set to overlay. Then smudged those edges. All in Photoshop.
I know its supposed to be "self titled" but once I saw the image a title popped into my head and I couldnt resist. |

I had to dirty it up a bit with some do-dads and gegaws. So first one is the clean version.

This thread irks me ever so slightly.
Record art should be inspired by the music it's been made for, and I doubt most people here have ever even heard a techno record.
I make techno records. I think Loki and Wayfinder have done some techno-influenced material as well. If you want to do a design based on actual music instead of on a design cliche, here are links to a few of my tracks:
"Got a Girl on Venus" (4:50, full track)
"Blue" (preview)
"July" (preview)
"Hold" (preview)
I don't know, maybe the topic was meant to be a farce, but if anyone wants to take it more seriously, I thought they should have something to work with. _________________ brian.prince|light.comp.paint |

Well thats the problem with an imaginary band with imaginary music
I liked the Venus work!
Do any of the songs on the Matrix CD (first movie) fit the techno style? It seems like some do. |

Thanks. The stuff in the Matrix isn't strictly techno. Techno is a sound that came out of Detroit and Chicago in the mid-80's, and is characterized by a futuristic theme, funky timing, and soulful/moody sound. A lot of people will call any electronic dance music "techno" , but genuine techno is a genre unto itself, with its own sub-flavors. Electronic music covers a huge spectrum, and to call all of it techno not only does a disservice to real techno, but its also not fair to the younger genres that it gets lumped with.
I'll shut up now. _________________ brian.prince|light.comp.paint |

giving someone inspiration for this kinda thing,,,i picture so

I don't think we're seeing enough filters here. Everyone should be piling on more filters.
Seriously, this is Sijun, of all places on the net this should be the one place where a techno cover can be designed without them.
It would be fun to make one with *just* filters though. _________________ matt - rhodes |

I used at least 30 passes of filters on mine. Only thing I truly regret is not adding a lens flare. And Balistic, does the term "shameless plug" mean anything to you? ![Wink](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) _________________ www.torsteinnordstrand.com |
