I am looking for artwork for a trading card game under development, called Mage Warfare. Its been tested using text-only cards and has gone over very well with everyone who has played it. The plan is to do a limited print run later this summer and take it to conventions, do demos, etc., to generate interest and get preorders. Then comes the full print run, with packaging, etc. Heres where the artwork comes in: there are 500 unique cards planned for the Alpha release. Thats a lot of art. So Im looking for artists either willing to donate speed paintings or who are willing work for a percentage of the POSSIBLE profits. Financial details will be provided for those seriously interested, contracts signed, etc. For more on the game, check out http://www.magewarfare.com. (btw: I did the website and I'm not a graphics designer...) _________________ Mage Warfare

yes, it does sound intreging. I might want to do a few too - but before that i kinda want assurances that i would be paid (im a little afraid to devote a lot of my time to something that may not make any money) or atleast have credit for the artowork. And i too am not a pro yet but if u want some samples of my work than just ask me.
And one more thing; 500 pics IS alot. I dont know how many artists u have planed on hiring for this, but in my opinion ur gonna need quite a few. _________________ -Chase |

I am in the process of looking into some business loans, but the market's pretty tight right now. Therefore, there isn't much money upfront and most of what I get will go to printing, packaging, distributing and marketing. I expect that artists will be paid from profits- but of course, I can't guarantee that there will be profits. I understand that may turn some people off. I'm hoping I can find enough up-and-coming artists who are willing to take the chance with us.
As for credit, I CAN absolutely guarantee that EVERY artist will receive full credit for their work. I have put up some simple artist pages on our web site (http://www.magewarfare.com) for the first artists and would be glad to put one up for every artist, plus links to their own sites and anything else I can do to help get their names out there.
If you're still interested, I'd be glad to look at some samples.

Hey KBarrett, I'm interested, sounds like fun! I dont really care if we get paid or not, I like doing these things for fun aswell. It's a bonus tho if we get paid. Thats just my opinion.
I'll be happy to do a few!
Here's a little something of the stuff you'll get from me or look at my digitally drawn pics in this forum that I have posted. Just use search to find my posts.

The admin at EatPoo locked my thread to spare me any flames from artists who've heard "possible profit, etc., etc. all the time." Oh well. Hopefully this one will stay open... _________________ Mage Warfare

im still interested. i think it would be pretty cool to do some art for these cards of yours.
edit/ woops i 4got something. I had another question about the payment - if these cards do well, then u were gonna give the artists a set percentage of the total profits, right? I'm just makin sure how this is gonna go down, but i do understand that there may not be any profits at all. _________________ -Chase

So, Immortal_Souls, I like your work, but your email doesn't show up in your profile and I can't seem to get to your page on metalshop.com. So send me an email at . Thanks! _________________ Mage Warfare

Yes, regarding profits: if there are any, we will pay artists. The amount paid will be commensurate with the amount of work provided. I realize this is a risk for artists, I just hope there are enough who are willing to take it. _________________ Mage Warfare

Okay, a few questions KBarrett.
Will we be doing these cards via digital drawing or pencil drawings or maybe some other type of medium?
Do you assign the artists with what type of cards they would like to draw or can we post or send emails to you on what cards we would like to draw up?
How much time will we have to draw these cards up?
And if we do get profit or credentials, what about people living away from where you live, for example, I live in Australia.
If you dont have the answer, it's okay, tell us when you have found out or answer when we get to doing them. _________________ Why dont you clone yourself!

Good questions! Here are the answers:
>>Will we be doing these cards via digital drawing or pencil drawings or maybe some other type of medium?
-You can do them in any medium, whatever you're most comfortable with. We can color pencil drawings (in Photoshop). Preferably, we'd like them to be 5" (w) x 6" (h) and scanned at 144 dpi. However, even if you mail us a pencil drawing, we can handle it. The more complete it is, the more it will match the artist's vision, though.
>>Do you assign the artists with what type of cards they would like to draw or can we post or send emails to you on what cards we would like to draw up?
-I have been requesting specific cards from people, but feel free to look over the list (http://www.magewarfare.com/cards.asp, and also the "Worlds" section) and if anything piques your interest, let me know. The cards list displays the artist name for those that have been assigned and/or completed, but check with me before you do any work, just in case. And I've been giving conceptual descriptions and leaving the visualizations pretty much completely up to the artist.
>>How much time will we have to draw these cards up?
Basically, as much time as you need. We don't expect to have all of the artwork for the grayscale printrun we will be doing next month. This is primarily for demos and these cards will not be sold. By doing demos at stores and cons and such, we hope to generate enough interest to get funding and/or preorders. We'd like to do the full color, retail print run in the fall, in time for Christmas.
>>And if we do get profit or credentials, what about people living away from where you live, for example, I live in Australia.
I don't foresee any issues with overseas artists. If/when money is paid out, we can use international money orders, PayPal, or whatever we need to. Artist's names will be listed on their respective cards, the website and any publicity or marketing materials that includes their work.
I hope that helps!

So if someone pics a card to draw, will that be reserved for them because I've already been thinking about reserving a couple that I have decided? I will let you know soon which ones I have chosen.
_________________ Why dont you clone yourself!

So long as someone who's interested in doing a specific card lets me know first to make sure no one else is already doing it, I will "reserve" if for them. Once someone's been given a card, no one else will be able to that card. So let me know what you're intersted in! _________________ Mage Warfare

yo kbarret, my e-mails being wierd and wont let me send stuff w/ attachements (maybe im doin somethin wrong, i dont know) so ill post some samples here.
Here is an unfinished 100% pencil drawing of two vietnam soldiers (reference from a Larry Burrows pic) I still need to do the guys hand and a few other things on the far right side of the pic.
Here is another thing im workin on (not even halfway there yet though) that i just decided to do for fun. the only things that are almost finished on this one is the armoured guy's helmet, parts of his chest armour, and the clouds.
and this is a pic that i posted here not too long ago, plus its 100% finished.

To Ed Humpal:
I got your email saying that you saw this discussion, and that you're interested in doing some art. I looked at your site and like your stuff. However, I can't reply to your email. Every time I do, I get an "Undeliverable Message" back that says "undeliverable to ". I hope you see this and send me an alternative address, or your Sijun.com id so I can send you a note!
Thanks
