Marvellous work and subject, ChiaNi! Everytime I see your nick, I'll always think of spectacular works of cultures and traditions!
can you tell me more about paper cutting? how long did you take to do one piece? Are those paper cut works really done with paper and scissors/blade, or are those actually done with photoshop!
I have one sample of a very good paper cut chinese bookmark that I bought from Singapore. So I can see for myself how complicated this form of art is. |

jeromoo: thank you. I am glad you enjoy the Asia traditions.
Chinese paper cut been around in China History for more then 2000's. So it have long long story to talk about it.
Chinese invent the paper. about Han dynasty. I belive these kind of art creat from paper maker family around same time. that was 2,500 years ago. Women were better not show theirself out side the public.. So They have time to do all kind of craft. Women craft call "Nu Hong" thses kind of art is part of their craft. late on male artist love this kind of from too. So they use this cut skill to creat all kind of project.
to use paper cut in China history. they been use as window decoration call "Windowflower" . Chinese call this paper curt "windowflower"for hundry's years. Westen world call this "Chinese paper cut".
I have too much to say. Maybe too boring. lol.

ChiaNi,
i am also chinese, so you'll never bore me with your talk about chinese art
i don't speak mandarin chinese (putonghua) though, because i'm hakka (kejia).
i really don't understand how you cut these figures. they seem so complex, it's incredible
i hope to post some of my art on this forum some time too. unfortunately i can't make any 'chinese' art to save my life, haha.. |
