Hey everyone
Ive been admiring everyones work for a few days now and just thought i would tell y'all how amazing your work is. I myself is what some people say an aspiring to be an aspiring artist i love to draw i just use plan ole pencil and paper and was wondering if anyone has any tips on making your work look so realistic. I can do realistic if i have a picture beside me and i want to start drawing straight from my head. im going to try doing a self portrait soon and when i do this is where i'll go
Keep up the good work everyone

Ha ha eyewoo, that's a classic
Teddyber - it's all about knowledge - drawing from pictures is ok to get your control down, but you need to try to get an awareness of structure, not ness. a full sceleton etc. but learn what structure goes into the face and it's emotions, same with the body. Figure drawing helps with the body, and I find SP's have helped with the face, as long as your thinking about it!!
Shanx - I'd love to see somthing darker!
[like Duracel's!] the subtlety is masterful ear looks a tight bit wonky ..

lionel, is that rubens? great work.
mon, i love the way you light your pictures, but i'm not able to understand your choices of colours, they are so....individual but still plausible... i wish, i had the experience to stylize my pics that way...
this one is a bit older ( 2 weeks i think )

Or in other words, could say same things to you, mon: "top quality man!" Perhaps not as moody(storytelling) picutre, but your lighting is just brilliant!
@StylesDavis, like your work. I got a new face clear inside my head! ![Wink](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) _________________ Lars Gtze

I already posted this one elsewhere but it qualifies as a self-portrait . . . as cheezy as it is.

Haven't been in the best mood recently. I'd like to switch hats one day ...This one doesn't fit me well.
First time in Painter trying out different brushes then took it to Photoshop and played with the colour. All that red is the 'simmering rage' just underneathe a supposed "calm veneer". Trying to maintain some dignity but in reality, I really want to "KILL" someone.
Lionel - really great artwork! The horse pic...wow!
Mon - great shadows. I like the emotion in your work.

That's high praise Capt Fred. Your self-portrait #6 was the one that inspired me (beautiful subtle colours) and portrait #9 is what kept bringing me back. And your crazy "Mr. Bean-looking shots" made me laugh hysterically!
...but right now I don't really feel like laughing much..... oh well.... _________________ "Oh what a tangled web we weave

Starting to feel the RAGE surface...
Thought I'd make myself into a horror sci-fi book cover/poster instead.
Duracel: I like that last one. I think I"m past that stage...very evocative.
AndyT: You're getting it. Good blocking in of colour. You're getting bolder with your darks and lights. Keep Going.

Bluetraveller: Thanks ... yeah I think doing many portraits helps. Even if I mess up a lot ... some things just come more natural now somehow.

I'm trying different approaches ... obviously

I dunno if this is what you meant Farley I tried to make this one darker, but I need to work on my expression. I just sketched myself out and started to paint, unknowingly ignoring my rather stupid expression. I look very feminine here. Even though I look kinda feminine anyway, this really makes me cringe. |

I made this while my hair was wet and when it became dry the hair started to be everywhere so I had to call it finished, think that the iris became too big.
Good work everybody

...another style
Keeping it loose..and feeling a little better ....though kind'ov sad.
Ceenda: - very nice...I really like the emphasis on the left eye. It's a great focal point (no pun intended) Now put some glint in the pupil/iris to "awaken" it.
Farley13: nice colouring. It looks very much like an oil painting ...some hardness under the chin maybe? Nice green "underpainting".
Matthew: I like that tossled look. I've seen your recent stuff...getting better!

The more portraits I do the more difficult it becomes.
Pencil, Color pencil, Acrylic and a little bit of ink used for this one.
