That's a great first post, Dick Row
Sukhoi, your version lacks the violent motion and immersiveness I get since we're so close to the action in the first one. It's much calmer, I think. In Dick's, the plane races from the right into, through, and beyond the picture plane. In yours, the cropping kind of drags it down instead?
Very interesting, and great posts everyone! _________________ www.torsteinnordstrand.com |

Yeah, good point Torstein. I know nothing about composition anyways, I just though he was a little cramped, with I guess was the point in your eyes atleast.
But I think your'e right, is the original he's saying: "HNNGGR!!" and everything is chaos.
In mine he's more like: "Whew, that's sorted then. where to land?"
Hehe, interesting.

You guys f u c k i n g rule! Man...you people have so much talent. Can you tell me what brushes and settings you guys use most of the time? I usually paint with painter 7 but i never seem to get the effect i want. I just got photoshop 7 today and i'm gonna check if it works better for me. Can you share your experiences with me? What do you like best, photoshop or painter and why? I know this is kind of a general question but this is one of the best threads I've seen and some of you have effects in your paintings that i'd like to achieve. So...Im sorry if this is the wrong place to ask but please let me know how you guys start off and what settings and brushes you use..
thanx.. |

Excuse my ignorance, but is it commom practice in this forum for members to mess around with each others work. Did I sign something while I was asleep. What happened to creative etiquette.
Regarding Sukhoi's 'revisions'. I understand your intent but your interpretation is the Jerry Bruckheimer of illustration. Give everything to your audience...show them everything till they're numb....subtlety is for sissies.
That's my rant. |

Dick Row: actually it is common practice for people to show their ideas/suggestions as a "paint over" (as they're called). You can take the suggestions onboard or not, it's up to you. But when people do go to the effort of offering a critique - even one you may not agree with - it's not good form to get offensive about it. _________________ Art Links Archive -- Artists and Tutorials |

Whoops.
Sorry there Dick Row!!!! Didn't mean to offend you.
It was just a thought, and as said composition isn't my strong side. Therefore I was looking forward to your thoughts on the subject. Your reasons etc.
This Jerry Bruckheimer wanted to learn a thing or two, but if you feel your work has suffered as a consequence I am truly sorry.
It will NOT happen again, I assure you.

Now i really do feel like a 'dick'. I must work on that sober second thought thing. My apologies. I'm new here and was unaware of the rules. Its just that after doing the illustration bit for 23 years it was a bit strange to have someone alter something I thought worked quite well. It was like I was back in highschool and my art teacher had grabbed by brush again and 'showed' me how its done. I think my professionalism if not my pride was hurt. Again...sorry for the rant and thanks for the crits. |

Haha.....yeah well, I should have asked you first, as it would have been the right thing to do. We're just so used to do the overpaint thing here that I forgot. Wich is no excuse. The "rule" is to ask first.....some of us are just not that good at upholding it.
Overpaints by 'lesser' artists can be a pain in the ass, hehe. On the other hand, overpaints by artists with more insight than one self can be worth tonnes. And I guess it works the other way round too, then one spots the 'not to do's'.
But I still learned a thing or two....which is what sijun is all about.

Feeling like the proverbial drunk that barges in on the party and throws up in the punch bowl (promptly sending everyone home) I thought it appropriate to post something in order to keep the thread going.
