That's awesome. Your mountainous background reminds me of backgrounds I've seen in lots of Renaissance art. The whole painting must have taken a long time to do seeing how detailed it is.
On minor thing that bugs me is the way he's holding the shield. The straps don't seem to really flex around his arm. And who cares about "historical accuracy" when drawing fantasy, but I think those shields were held more like this :
http://ic.net/~blues/wfshield.htm#3
(Assuming you were creating a heater shield, or a norman kite shield, which would be a fair assumption for someone written about in medieval England) Of course that site could be wrong or you could know better. But holding it as shown on the site does give more of a balance to holding a shield.
But having his arm vertical like that does add a little more aggression to his pose. So who cares about history. Also interesting how you mixed a more oriental dragon in with western fiction.
Hmm... looking at the painting again... Is George supposed to be a giant? He casts a shadow on what looks a lot like a mountain? And I can't see much that clearly seperates him from what must be a mountain range behind him.... |

I really dig your painting, especially the dragon. But one thing bugs me a little bit: the transition between the sky/clouds and the mountains (primarily on the right side) seems too abrupt and it looks like the sky was just pasted from another picture. If you smooth that out the piece would be pretty much perfect in my eyes

HEYA! Thanks mucho guys. I've fixed many concerns people had as far as being able to read the image correctly. It should now be much more evident just how big St. George is in this one. :] Here's a new "book cover" crop" - I think I like this crop better in a way, what do you think?
Rychan - You're quite correct about the shield posture. When thinking of the arm placement, I was concerned with the way he would have to move the shield to fight an airborne foe. I thought this would be more manueverable(spelling somebody?). :] And thanks about the bgs, I love DaVinci's bgs
Matthew - gracias
aroma - Thanks, I think I've fixed that now!
Hyptosis and Ramiranda - Thanks, I'm not about to stop after all these years ![Smile](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) _________________ -Anthony

awesome colors, Anthony. I'm particularly fond of the section up top with the dragon's fins.. the use of lighting is very, very nicely done. the only thing that is bugging me is the left shoulder.. i dont think it's been touched upon yet. it looks a little too compressed when i look at the right shoulder, and compare it to the left as it is now. other than that, it's quite an amazing piece. keep up the great work!

Haha, this thread's like a dead body, always popping up when you think its buried.
Thanks guys again, I appreciate it. I agree 100% on the left shoulder critique, and 125% on the lameness of the pose. Really gotta do more figure work! _________________ -Anthony
