::EDIT::
ok, thanks for the crits, i tried to see what i could do about about them. this is the new picture. anything else you can think of would be appreciated.
::END EDIT::
hey, this is a sort of mascot for a bass(guitar) website that i am designing. this is my first real attempt at the cell style, just wanted to see what everyone thought of this. I need it to be as good as possible so feel free to tear into it. just try not to be too mean

Firstly: It looks tootally wicked. Really cool, good job
Criticisms-wise: I think that that particuular curve on his stomahc makes his belly look slightly weird, it's hard to see exactly how much of a belly he's got, plus the rest of his body is signifiantly skinnier than his stomach might suggest.. To be honest I think I'm practically making these things up becyase you asked for criticisms.. maybe if the curve went the other way
totally sweet dude. |

Normally, I wouldn't post, i generally just look at all the pretty pictures; since my digital painting skills are entirely lacking, and I have no digital pieces to be at all proud of; but as I spend my non-drawing time playing the bass, I had to comment on this one.
Theres something awkward about the way he's holding the bass...it'd very awkward to hold the bass at the side like that. behind his fretting hand, i can't see a thumb, where there should be one right behind the neck. As for the hand with the glove...theres something wierd about that, too. it looks like he's hovering over the strings rather then resting his fingers lightly on them...Its a cool painting; but musically; theres something....not quite right.
its mostly cause the character seems to be standing up. since i don't see any knee to rest the bass upon, i assume he's standing, and to play sideways like that would just be ridiculous and a strain on your arms when standing up. when i play sitting down, i hold it a bit more to my side, but when standing up, i'd be resting on my chest.
Theres certainly something snurky about his fretting hand, too....the way the arm is bent and the way the fingers are coming back towards him...i dunno...seems like it would put a great strain on his wrist.
ofI really like the character, he's entertaining. But his position doesn't look natural. Of course, I could just be talking out of my ass, but I don't think I am... Look for more photo references, I suppose. Blah. Sorry for ranting. _________________ Niv. Yeah. |

well, shoot, Niv youve kind of made me look like a fool
for the website i was planning on cropping it about halfway up his stomach...so maybe people wont notice the awquardness
ill have to see what i can do about the thumb, that shouldnt be hard to add, and maybe it will make the rest of the hand not seem so awkward. but this is how i improve, so feel free to rant as much as you want |

Respect, I play bass y'see, so this is a cool pic. There are a few things awkward about it though, as people have said, such as the left arm (too short?) and the non-presence of a thumb resting behind the fretboard.
He looks too tubby as well. Heh...
Cool character though. _________________ I went to write my signature, and now i've got ink all over my monitor! |
