Great job man. I really like the subtle warm hues in the foreground and those european brick apartments are quite charming. The attention to details is nice -- I don't just mean the small details like beer bottles or cigarette butts either. The "big" details like the air conditioners, chimney outlets and wooden window divisions are a couple of things that make it a lot more interesting and real. Keep up the great work and I hope to see more stuff in the near future.

Damn, nice job on this. It must be hard to work on something only to have it get cut out. Sad

You're kidding me right?!! I'm astounded at the realism shown in this painting.. It is unbelievably well done, yet at the same time it still retains a bit of unrealism to it.. Not sure why I know it's a painting, but it's just awesome!

Well done, this reflection on the window (just below the signature) - very nice detail. Dunno if it's intentional, but it could use bit of depth feel,
very slight haze or something?

Hi, one new matte painting done for Siemens Xelibri, a new telephone. The plane was painted in Photoshop, using a rough 3D render as a base for perspective.
Note: This is the finished matte painting (with the woman in yellow cut out and put ontop of the mp, to give it some appeal as a still.). It's NOT the finished comped shot, so later we added a lot more dancing girls, second passes of waves in the water, exchanging faces and people all over the place. Enjoy.

Stunning!!!

Man, I really didn't know that mattepaintings can also be objects like planes.
Now,...Is that a 3d mattepainting since you used a 3d model for perspective or is the definition for "3d mattepainting" different?
Is a 3d mattepainting just for objects which have to move in any way?
Or is it all the same....

Thanks.

Thanks Anthony.

Max> Matte Paintings (traditionally) could be basically anything. I think with todays technology, this plane would normally been approached as a 3D shot, not a matte painting shot. However, since I was the only one, dumb and daring enough, to do this, I think it worked better as a matte shot. The camera move is small, and the shot is short. It's just there, no one would notice.

It's not a 3D matte painting, as it's pure Photoshop work in the end. The 3D geometry was something that was done quickly to give the an idea of the perspective and selection masks. 3D matte paintings are different. 3D matte paintings would be defined as 2.5D. They are a a combination of 2D matte paintings projected onto 3D geometry.

The reason why one would do 3D mp's are they are more flexible. They give the illusion of depth much clearer than straight 2D work does. Negatives sides are they take much more time to do than 2d mp's, as they often require more people. At MPC though, matte painters tend to do everything on their own.
