Hallo. I'm new here, but I've been peeping around the forums for a couple of days now, and I really enjoy what I've seen, so I wondered if you would please give me some critique on this sketch? (no no no, it's not supposed to be realistic or anything;)
The genereal idea was to achieve a sense of depth.
Thankyou! ![Smile](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

well if you say its not meant to be realistic, what is it meant to be? also i don't entirely understand HOW you're trying to create depth. but that aside...
firstly i think if you practised doing longer, more confident linework it would up the overall look a bit for you. after a while you get more confident and bold with your drawing, so your lines are longer and flow together.
also i think the shading could do with being a little smoother, and stronger contrasts. its usually best to use a B pencil such as a 4B etc, cuz then it easier to do darker parts, and smudges a little if you want it to be smooth.
otherwise the actual drawing, shape etc looks pretty good to me. it might help to add some kind of background if you're going for depth too.
i'm no expert so thats just my general view of it. keep going. _________________

Yes I think the proportions are exaggerated but ok. Looks coherent to me.
For the sense of depth you can try to memorize the planes of the head.
Loomis 1
Loomis 1
When you have constructed the planes decide where the lightsource is and try to find the correct values. _________________ http://www.conceptworld.org |

Thanks for the feedback!
1) Not realistic meant it had a sort of comic-ish feel over it.
2) I tried creating depth with the shades on the face.
3) I didn't add a background as it was only a couple-o-minutes of sketching.
Really appreciate it :-) |
