I dunno why I love to paint cathedrals, maybe I should become religious hehe.

Maybe I should have posted it in some thread but I spent too much time on it to call it a speed painting...

I started out very different this time, I didn't know at all what I was going to paint, it just popped up, I have some early versions of it that I can post later if you are intrested, sorta like a tiny "tute" hehehe

Do you sketch these in with quite a low opacity brush?

Thanx sukhoi, Uki, ceenda and Francmidi!

Ceenda, actually, I don't paint with the opacity set to something, but youre kinda right, I was very careful and didn't press very hard with the wacom pen, I wanted more "swoosh" and "I can't really se what it is" style hehe.

damn, this is amazing.
clich from top to bottom, but nevertheless i had to stare at it for minutes.
i can't make out what's happening with the floor though, where the tiles seem to suddenly get bigger in some places.

anyway - great work! very good lighting and everything.
the amount of detail (you make me believe i see) really rocks.
and i love the "swoosh" of the strokes.

i'd really like to see the early version you mentioned.

places of religious worship often manifest magnificent grandure that sets them apart from the profane. something to do with inspiring spiritual experiences. i love to visit them although i'm not even religious myself. just imagine them as my house - like something out of dune. only religions and massive corporations can afford this kind of shit.

great pic. your style rules. especially all those shards of light crossing each other.

post more

that's friggin awesome dude: way to go!
Every one's improving so much -- you were already hot stuff! Cool

The perspective warping in on the rigt of the picture like that, I haven't figured out if that is a good or a bad thing in my opinion yet.

I see evidence of similar techniques/methods that Spooge Demon Himself uses Smile Way to go!

Awesome Picture Capt. great texture and ambience.

Lately I've been picking up on the idea of just hinting at things in pictures and letting peoples imaginations do the work for you. People just add in their own details in their minds. Smile

I would love to see some of the earlier renderings.

Not that a piece like this needs crits, but if I had to give comments:

different monitors might see it differently, but I would consider upping the saturation just a touch.

Also I wonder about the dimensions. Was the image cropped from a sketch?
It looks slightly overweighted on the right.
-shit.. I sound like someone from Lumental. I may pay for this some day Wink

You are a fantastic inspiration to all

thanx for your replies dudes!

Brunout: what do you mean? do you se some kind of filter? Maybe I just don't think of it and don't notice ?

Haomaru: youre probably right about the tiled floor, It was hard to align it to the curved perspective so I devided it into 3 pieces, the one further away sqewed wrong, making it look much bigger =( thanx for the comps, it was exactly what I wanted to do, I dunno what to call it, "passive detailing"?? hehehe

haah twice, I'll be hiding in the closet Razz

Keyser: please, don't be shy with the crits, it's the best gift you could give me! I stare myself blind on the painting so I don't notice stuff, and when you tell me I suddenly se it!

I looked at the image on different moitors today, and I must say I almost puked!! sometimes it's so light you can se all kind of shit in it Sad

The image is not cropped, it's just me and my lowsy persp knowledge, I started out wihout knowing what to paint, with more practise maybe I could paint perspectives like this better.

actually, it's good that you sound like someone from lumental, someone will pay YOU for them some day!

here's the early pics:

wow, amazing pic captain.

Thanks for showing the early pics, you have a lovely way of hinting at details that just baffles me. The first 'early pic' really highlights this: it looks great even though there's not a lot of it there, you can see that it's going to turn into a cool painting. How the heck do you paint with that process? (I see others like Sparge paint this way, too) I start off with fairly detailed sketches that look terrible and with a lot of tweaking and too much focus on each detail, I colour them into something 'ok' but I feel like I'm fighting all the way. Did you always paint successfully with that method?, or does it come with practice?

btw: Zoro looks like he was a pretty cool fella. Me and my GF *really* want a cat/s but I'm allergic to them Sad
