Shocked Shocked Shocked
Stunning images ... all of them. Sumaleth I love the latest one.

It's not a 10 minute sketch even if it looks like one.
I did paint from real apples but I didn't find any good reference images for the other stuff.
Yes the shadows are faked Embarassed

Very Happy Great idea - the sticky draw club. Nice work everybody, Joachim Shocked - wow! I try to paint some apples too, but because of a lack of webspace at the moment only for myself.

More apples pleeease!

Two flying apples.

sumaleth: Your second apple is great. I think Escher painted a picture of two faces with similar approach. It might have been someone else I'm not exactly sure.

This apple is now history (since approx. 4 mins) Wink . Not very artistic. But I tried. I hope the deviant-thing works (Thanks to AndyT).

Great image. Shocked
I think it will work later ... there seem to be problems at Deviantart.
Maybe the preview version is viewable?

Yeah should work ... you can change the url to:

temporarily.

Or does the image work for you?

Hi AndyT, for me the link works (if not I'll try the preview version). Thanks for your help and that you like the picture. If I have the time I will paint another one before the next draw-club lesson starts. Rolling Eyes

see you tomorrow

blorg, from life, but these apples were far enough gone that I won't eat em. They get a coolish waxy look.

Good idea Sumaleth, maybe the subject should be biased so that working from life is preferred? But if creativity is the goal, not bone numbing endless repetitive academic drudgery (see below) then don't worry about it.

Looks OK from orbit.

Good God, why? I think it's quite biased enough in that direction already! Myself, I've been enjoying the more lighthearted takes on the subject much more--the pig one, especially.

I mean, I've got pages of oranges and grapefruits and so forth in my sketchbook (I don't like apples, so there are never any here). Everybody does that sort of stuff all the time, for practice. I thought this thread was here for fun. (If not, I shall remove my contribution, and keep my more foolish pictures in the speedpainting thread.)

EDIT - By being biased towards life painting, I just mean that more life-painting style images are being posted than other types of images, not that posters are showing any particular bias AGAINST images that aren't from life.

There is no bias towards painting from life or imagination. Whatever takes your fancy. Smile

The more range the better. Do one of each if you like.

For the record, I was working from life on mine. I live right next to an apple farm run by nudists.

presumably there has been a slight inclination to draw from life so far becuase of the topic. When the topic is "cyborgs" or "outside" people will use their imagination instead of direct observation.

Nice art everyone, keep 'em coming!!

Joachim that's pure magic! Inspired me to paint this: (took "slightly" longer than 15 min)

Actually I agree with you Spooge, self portrait thread has proven that drawing from life can give a huge boost to drawing abilities and personally I find it very interesting to see the choises people make when they paint from real life.. the biggest problem I see is thread like that becomes quite easily repetitive.
To prevent it from becoming repetitive you don't need to paint the whole picture from life.. for example you would have the possibility to take only one element from real life (be it the weight, light, colours, silhouette or any other part) Also it's easier to critique pics that are drawn partly or entirely from life. I think the question is if we want this thread to be educating (like self portrait thread) or more fun and inspiring (eg. speedpainting)

Bg - Wow, I would say that yours i purely magic, the best one in here so far, Great Work. :)

I see that there have been many thoughts back and forth about what this thread was gonna be about, as you might know I started a poll earlier to see what everybody wanted to have as a themed thread.
I also talked with Sumaleth earlier about some kind of poll voting for topics for this thread, maybe something that could be considered because of all the different ideas in here, it would surely also increase the participation in this thread for a longer time.
If you dont think its an good idea I wont mention this again.

I think the bias toward drwing from life or not drawing from life need not be something that is a fixed. With each different topic it can change. One week it can be still life, one week portraits from life, another, martian concpent art. have the bias towards from life/not from life change with each topic as it naturally would anyway, I reckon. that way it can be mor varied.
