Maybe someone has had this experience. The eraser on the back end of my Wacom pen used to work (with Photoshop 6). Today I went to use it and it no longer switches to eraser (it just works as whatever tool is selected). I've reinstalled it, and I've looked at the manual but can't figure this one out. Any help?

I occasionally get that, the pressure/tilt variation stops working too. Usually i just restart ps and it works, if not, restarting the comp always does the trick. I seem to get it if i've been running any graphics/ram intensive programs. Never been a problem that a restart won't fix.

Thanks Bob and Sabre. When I restarted today, it was still tweaked. So I closed and re-opened PS, and no luck. Then I tried Bob's suggestion (closed PS and fiddled with the Wacom control panel) and it's working again. Next time I'll know what to do.

yah, sometimes the pressure and eraser stop working. this might happen if you're working in photoshop and maybe a window pops up ( IE ... someone IMs you) , and I think the commands are then sent to the wrong window. Usually works if i minimize and maximize photoshop.

I believe theres an option in photoshop somewhere to set use eraser as eraser.....

HINT HINT... that little eraser is cool on the end of the pen, but why use it when you can switch back and forth between drawing and erasing by simply pressing the "E" key for eraser and the "B" key for whatever pen is active. Much faster and far more fluid... Cool

It's just a habit for some of us that drew for years before they invented Wacoms.

Are you left or right-handed Phil? Being a lefty, I can't seem to get my right hand to find the left-sided keys on the board without looking. If you're left-handed, could you tell me any secrets to make the right hand work right? Maybe there should be a reverse keyboard for us lefties Smile

later,
Brian

If you use WinXP you can "restart" the tablet.

(well, i used a german WinXP, so this description "whre" is perhaps in non-original words)

Start->Properties(Einstellungen)->Systemcontrol(Systemsteuerung)->Administration(Verwaltung)->Services(Dienste) -> and here you chose "tablet-service" and "rightclick->restart"

This has to work without restarting Photoshop!

speaking of photoshop shortcuts, whos bright idea was it to have the B and E so far apart. and what happened to my N for pencil after photoshop 5.5 i think it was. Who the hell uses the notes function anyway. Pressing shift-B is not that comfortable being that the keys are 10 cm apart.
Then in imageready its swaps back to N for pencil to confuse you. Ppl are stupid.

Ideally you should be able to use photoshop shortcut keys (or the most common ones) like you play a computer game,, without having to look at the keyboard. Its not totally impossible.

Anyone know of a tool or plugin to remap photoshop keys?

as for reaching over and pressing E - sometimes i do that sometimes i don't depends on how engrossed in the work i'm doing..
