Monitors can have problems with heat buildup . . . make sure nothing is blocking the grill work, and that the screen isn't sitting below a heating vent or something. I know when my old Viewsonic overheated it would make a sproing sound and the picture would go all blurry until you cycled the power once or twice. Only every happened in the summer time. Make sure to turn it off when you aren't using it (that's not always good advice for monitors that don't have heat problems though).

Could be the cable, try wiggling it around at either connector and see if the picture improves. If its the cable, then its only a $35 fix.

Try upping the refresh rate ? My display was all jiggly before because of the electronic devices nearby -- refresh rate up, problem fixed.

Also beware of computer speakers and other appliances causing magnetic interference.

Have you tried degaussing it?

Electrical cables inside walls can also be a major culprit with monitor interference. You can normally confirm it by turning on a high power appliance like a washing machine or a heater, and see how the monitor reacts.

I had some dark horizontal lines appear on my monitor a while back. Kind of like I was looking through shutters. It turned out to be my video card. I don't know much about monitor problems, but I guess that could be a possibility. Have you tried hooking your monitor up to another system to see if it's still screwed?
