Very, very nice. The foreground and the shadow from the structures are a bit lacking though.

The rough areas are great as it adds to the overall artistic feeling of the image, and I bet you could easily remove them to make the image 'perfect' if given enough time. And yeah, great use of reference material, subtle and skillfully applied. You know your Photoshop for shure!

Well, back to drawing for me it is then.

Keep it up Gordillo!!!

wow, very nice indeed! Though some shadows of the city in the snow could be a little sharper I think.

Hey Gordilla, nice effort! :] The thing about matte paintings is that you have to noodle them down all the way around in order to have them work. If you leave any brush strokes visible, and questions in the rendering, you lose a lot, unlike in illustration where you might leave a part unfinished on purpose. There are way too many brush strokes visible in the upper ridge, the shadows of the palace, and then all over on the bottom. You have to work smaller and smaller until you don't have those around. If you use the lasso select you can often paint flat and it'll still work - no detail but at least its sharp and the right value in the right place. It probably wouldn't matter as much if you weren't using photos in the image, because the level of detail would be more consistent, and thus it'd be more evident to you. Great work, just go that extra mile if you have time and patience for it, to really finish it off. It'd help to trace the shadow very precisely from the palace, and then add shadowed detail into the faces of the building itself. Keep it up! Very Happy

Looks pretty sweet. You have detailed bacgkround, and quite undetailed foreground - looks good now, but for realism You should refine the foreground more. Other thing is that white haze over the building - You could do without it Wink Keep it up Cool

Shocked Damn that's stunning.

The only thing that doesn't work for me is the path between the guy and the castle.
Somehow it seems as if the castle is only a few steps away and it could be far in the distance as well.
That makes it look like an illusion somehow.

I guess the castle is supposed to be in the distance (because of the staircase ... a person there would be very small)
But then he would walk down a hill that should be differently lit then the ground (or ascending path) close to the castle.
I don't know how to say that Embarassed . I guess the foreground isn't seperated from the middleground properly?

Wow! I've been loving this surge of picture making from you of late. You seem to be having an inspirational season and it's great to have you posting again.

Like someone already said, the shadow direction seems to change depending on which part of the scene you are looking at. In some places it seems to be coming from almost horizon level and in other places the light source seems higher up.

Anyway, lovely work!

Sweet!

The image doesn't read as "real" to me, but it's really, really great. Just make sure the guy doesn't step left.

Fantastic! Love the fact that you supplied us with the source images. Only one little niggle- the background is nicely faded out and hazy, but I thought maybe the monk should not suffer the same fate since he's so close to the viewer?
