Hello
I have sent my first School application and I am gonna get nervous as !"#.
These are finished and will not be changed and they are not my property anymore cause they are on the mail-box, I still have them digitally.
C&C as always, it can help me out on the next shipments of samples,
Anyway, Im rambling ... Here are the samples:
Thank you and have a nice day
Matthew
The Budgies are a bit old but I wanted to send one acrylic to the school |

If ur wonderin if a school would accept these then i would say yes. They're all nice...and i think it was very smart to stick that painting in with em, even if its old.
gl!
i guess my crit though would have to be maybe to add more shading than line art next time...cuz im seein a lot o lines....but thats minor. _________________ -Chase |

Hey
These are an attempt to attend to The Royal Art College in Stockholm, dunno if these can be anything for them but it was worth a shot anyway, it would be cool to get some sort of advice from them if I dont get in, but that can be a tricky thing, to get in that is.
Heres the link:

I will respond later to all replys
Thank you

I have no idea how competitive the school is or anything so I really have no clue what your chances are so I'll just do a swift critique I guess! Your forms are pretty much flat. It looks like you were probably drawing them from photographs. Pick up the shading, don't leave so much white space! Perhaps as an experiment you should try taking conte and/or charcoal to a coloured ground? You can also definitely pick up the values a bit more. I see lots of line work which makes it look more cartoony than anything. I really like the hands, I think they are the best things on this page. You have more contrast in them than in anything else on there. They also have the best anatomy of anything else on the page, there are several things rather off looking of the people you drew. I'd say just draw from life some more, the hand looks pretty good! _________________ "Me? I'm a pop idol."

Hi, Matthew
Im also from Sweden and
I can say for sure that with these you will never get in there. You seem to be young so dont take it hard.
You have to study at other artschools before. Try konstskolan, or konstskolan basis or paletten, then from there you can search to another art school like Gerlesborg and then you have a chance on Royal art school or konstfack...
Dont waist your time by trying to get in to the Royal art school when you should search for other school first...
Good luck... |

Thanks for the comments everyone.
Spline - Maybe I am too old instead, 25 actually. anyway I thought it was worth a try, I am gonna send samples to some other schools too.
I will see what happens but I hope one of the schools will accept me.

Thank you Max Yeah the budgies took a while to make, acrylic stuff is tricky. Think it was 3-4 hours.

You think? They were made with reference and I thought that schools wanted pictures of naked people, but it could be that I choosed to many pictures with line-art instead of just blocking in the shapes, something I will keep in mind to the next set of samples.
Thank you for the comments earlier with useful tips, CwStone, Gothic Gerbil, spline, Max Kulich.
Could be that I made a mistake to post pictures I will send for schools in here.
I will let this thread die now so no more answers from me.

i'd definitely want more finished pieces man, a couple of sketches and a painting with no background isn't much. and while your technique isn't out and out terrible, it's not very good yet, it looks like you are doing some ad hoc drawing from photos. plus, as mentioned the nude photos are immediately identifiable as erotic by the poses, which is poor taste.
but if you're interested in applying to that place (which I don't know anything about so can't help you there) go for it and don't back down. The worst thing you can do when you're interested in something is give up in fear before giving it a chance, so go for it. |
