What version of Painter are you using?
Not sure what you meant by "A screen of where it is would be nice", unless you don't know where to find Net Painter in Painter.
In Painter 6 and earlier, it's in the Objects palette.
In Painter 7, the default mode is not to have that section displayed in the Objects palette, so you'll need to go to:
Edit > Preferences > Palettes
Then click Objects and check Net Painter. Now the Net Painter section should display in the Objects palette.
To have an online painting session with Net Painter, you need to decide which participant will provide the host computer. Then whoever it is needs to send their IP number to all other participants so they can connect. If you're like me, and each time you connect to the Internet your ISP gives you a different IP number, you'll need to connect first to see what it is, then send it to the other participants.
The hosting participant needs to open Painter, and wait for other participants to connect.. without opening a new Canvas until all participants are connected.
In the Net Painter section, each connected participant's name will appear in the top area where there are three "lights", red, green, and yellow used to indicate the current status of each participant. Read means they can't paint, green means they have control of the Painter screen and can paint, and yellow means they're waiting in line for a turn to paint.
In the bottom area of the Net Painter section, there's a tiny chat window where the participant who currently has control of the Painter screen can type messages. You'll need to be careful not to type long lines as they seem to disappear. I don't recall exactly what happens, but it's something like that, and you'll soon see what I mean.
When a painting is saved, it's saved to a folder I think is named Network Folder or something like that, below the main Painter folder and it's automatically saved to all other participants' Network Folders. If memory serves me, the Network Folder is automatically created when you hold a Net Painter session, probably the first time the painting is saved.
Since I'm writing this from memory some of it may not be completely accurate but that's the general idea. There are things you need to do to set up for an online painting session, and to connect and this is done using the Net Painter section menu (click the triangle in the upper right corner of the Net Painter section).
All participants need to use the same Painter version (including patches) and have the same libraries loaded. It's best to use the default libraries that came with the program, in their original state, without custom brush variants, etc. Otherwise, if one participant uses a custom brush variant only they have, other participants won't see the brushstrokes appear on their Canvas. Likewise for papers, patterns, etc.
There's a NetPainter.pdf file you can download to read the rest, at:
ftp://ftp.corel.com/pub/Painter/6/
Good luck. It takes some doing to get it all set up but it's a lot of fun once you're all connected and painting.
P.S. Avoid using complex brushes that take a long time to render brushstrokes. I once made the mistake of using the Bulge brush and our session came to a halt, the darned thing was so slow. Everything has to be transmitted across the Internet, so keep that in mind and keep things simple. |
