So let's say that the job boiled down to this person and one other. The other guy worked his ass off really hard to produce a portfolio of great work, while the ripper just seeded his portfolio with your work and with no effort whatsoever.
He got the job - undeservingly.
If I were you I would attempt to contact the company; it's just not fair that he's riding on your coattails, and it's not fair to the other candidates that tried very hard to get the job through honest efforts. I wouldn't feel the least bit sorry for him, if he got fired.
I'd go for it - go for the jugular! _________________ - Tom Carter

I would post his email that he sent me...but, it's pretty lame. Anyway, he won't mention the company's name..suprise..but it sounds like outside of Los Angeles. Sez he's going to thank me when he meets me in LA. This guy is not only stupid but bold as well. I figure he might be in SF..dunno for sure. There are few game company's up there so maybe it's one of them.
I would say, through this experience....I wouldn't be the first one....and not the last. Just keep your eyes peeled as someone might just jack your work too and take credit for it.

Surely this calls for some sort of internet lynch-mob! It must be so upsetting - I know I'd want to find the guy and sort him out. But take solace in the fact he'll get fired on his first day when they realise he's crap |

That sucks - why does the guy think you would even want to meet him??
Better throw some bio stuff or a photo or name change or something...

I think it's one of those one time pain-in-the-butt kinda thing. I replied to his email and he didn't reply back. Maybe took this fOO by surprise. It could either be a bad joke or somebody who I may have worked with decided to pose as someone else. Anyway, would my name be tarnished?...I thought it was already....
By the way, I posted a pic of myself on the site.

Ed: Going the way of most things, this guy will probably sit about in his office, spend alot of money, get fired when management catch on and he will then be liable for return of earnings. It's entirely possible the company which catches on may, in fact, contact you, not the other way round.
Keep producing kick-ass art in the meantime. We want the real McCoy. |

Hmm... wait this isn't quite possible.
Even when I got my retail job (gotta pay for art school somehow) I still had a few reference calls and a small check on my background.
There is no way this guy would have got a high paying office job at a game company without some more serious checks into his background.
I'm thinking that even if it is true, he wouldn't last the first day or couldn't even cash that first paycheck.
I suppose the only way he might last longer than a day was if his name was the same.
Of course, if the company didn't do these checks in the first place and hired someone based solely off a website without a few test runs, they probably deserve such an idiot on their team.
My thinking is it's probably someone jealous of your skills and wants to give you a hard time. If not, sue him for everything he owns. |

I got an email from this dood that he wants to meet me at E3 front of EA booth. Should I kick his a**? Feel like it but I'll be in Texas working on Spy Kids 3 for 4 months. He tells me there's another Ed Lee applying at ID - don't know if he used my website as well. So, now, I'll contact both ID and EA to make sure there's no confusion. OR, I'll just call my self something else.

Don't bother beating him up. Save it for when you sue him for identity theft.
Seriously, it sounds like he only got past the application, and that the company is interested in seeing his work in person or interview him. He absolutely will not make it in to the company, especially not to big name companies like EA or Id that probably get hundreds of false applications a week. A simple background check will find the fraud, especially if the idiot is dumb enough to proclaim his fraud like this.
Keep an eye on those companies and send out e-mails to them. Anyone with a brain will realize it's important to find this guy if he exists. And who knows, maybe you'll get some future work from all this. |
