I'm working on designing a palace that has a futuristic edge to it, but doesn't look totally sci-fi. Here's some marker sketches of what I've got so far.
This is a small sketch, maybe 5" inches across. I did it rather quickly.
An overhead of the palace.
Here's a more finished concept. I am basing this palace on the Palacio de Comunicaciones in Spain. I like those Spanish palaces. Perspective I'm sure is off on this one as I was eyeballing it as I worked. I haven't gone back and checked it yet.
And a close up of one of those little gargoyles on it.

i hate it when no one replies to my posts... so here i go...
i like the concept alot... perhaps the main entrance is not bold and defined enough... (it looks kinda like the edges of the building.) make it different somehow.
As for the overhead shot, maybe you could throw in some rooftop gardens or balconies, and such... its a little bare.
Lastly, i think the gargole isn't menacing enough (i thought these things were supposed to scare away demons... yours looks like he's waiting for someone to brush his teeth or he's yawning. )
but anyways, thats my two-cents...
nice work ![Smile](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) _________________ "Man! I just noticed that I write a lot of fragment sandwiches!" |

The concept is looking good so far =)
I suggest you to look at some of Gaudi's buildings, he made some amazing designs. _________________ "Ever forward, my darling wind." -Master Yuppa

Hey
Those are really cool I especially like the first one, that design is awesome. Ink Markers isnt an easy medium and once you get a hang of them they are empty...hehe, thats crazy.
So which one are you gonna choose?
Keep it up
Cheers

Maybe you should have a look at the palaces of Dune, the game. Those are also futuristic. Yours looks great by the way.

Hi all, thanks for the comments.
MCnasto: Well, thanks for being the first to reply. I know the enterance is kind of plane... I'm not really sure what to do with it yet. I don't really want it too, too decorative. Yeah, there is not much to look at from the top view. I could probably add some height variations. Actually, if I'm not mistaken, the real function for gargoyles long ago was to be really fancy drain pipes.
Ragnarok: Thanks, I'll check him out.
Matthew: Yeah, I really like working with markers like this, but now all my light colors are almost out of ink.
Frode: Thanks for the link. I'll give it a look.
Soak: ...a beaver? Um, guess I'm not seeing it. Maybe closer to an otter. ![Very Happy](images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif) _________________ Hire me. http://www.spherenoire.com/ |

hey Turokess, it's cool, but personally I think the front of it reminds me way too much of that star trek shirt-logo thing. That alone makes it a touch too far on the sci-fi side for my taste.
If it were me, I would make the basic design more like the great old palaces in Europe (Spain or wherever), and then I'd think about what parts would be the most improved with future or current technology, such as .... I don't know. These areas/details are the ones that would make it an obvious future building, while keeping a recognisable palace-style.
somehow the star trek thing doesn't seem very structually sensible, in the way that some of the arches are in old Europian palaces. |
