Hi
I was wonder what type of materials I can use for highlighting. I don't paint or anything. Just drawing with pencils and pens for the lines. I use prismacolor markers for coloring. But I can't find the right tools for making the highlights. I tried to use a white color pencil, but it didn't really show up. Is there like some kind of gel pen where the ink doesn't just sink into the paper?
thanks

You might want to try a white gel pen. I always just made the initial highlight, then softened the blow by smearing it with my thumb.

OR, you could always just.. work backwards. You know, highlights and bright areas first, and continually block in the darker values around it. I think that's how Feng Zhu works.

White gouache is often used for highlights. You apply it with a brush.

White out is quick and easy. Be careful with it though, you can make a mess pretty quickly. It's only good for really small areas.

DAMNIT, BALISTIC. STOP ADVISING PEOPLE TO USE PAINTBRUSHES. THEY ARE LIKE THE PHOTOSHOP FILTER OF THE TRADITIONAL WORLD.

Use your finger instead. Or, an eyelash.

Yeah, white gouache and brush is the most common way to go. I wouldn't advise jel pens as they don't seem to work consitantly nor can you vary the look of your mark too well.
