Okay, I need help, here. I need to know the Chinese words for:

Annoying pest

and

Vengeful Dead.

Any dialect will do. I need to know the words the way they'd look spelled out in Roman letters, not actual Chinese characters.

Please don't mess with me and tell me the words for "fried noodles" or "big dick" just to pull my chain--I need these for work, and I don't want to get in trouble.

LoL, I didn't notice it's you until I finished reading the post. Hahaha. You never looked so desperate before.

You mean to spell them in roman letters in the way we say it.
Ok, Annoying pest is "Hai chong" (I am not very sure with this one, cause most pests are annoying. The term I use is actually just for pest. Hai: bad; chong: insect)
Vengeful Dead is "Yuan hun" or "E gui" (E is prounanced as the ea in "earth")

Is this what you need? I am not messing any joke to you, nor do I dare to:P, haha. Hope it helps.

Thanks--that's great! That's exactly what I needed, and I appreciate your not making a joke on me.

Hey, here to the rescue.

ebrain gave you the cantonese version. I'll give you the mandarin version(which is the official dialect of the Chinese race)

annoying pest-- Fan-Chong

vengeful dead-- Li-Gui

These are the official "ping-yin" for those terms by Chinese people when they type(in China). The Taiwan version is somewhat different.

haha, Lunatique, Surprised I am not speaking cantonese, what I said is pure and standard mandarin, I stayed at North China for 6 years. And you can see I am also typing pinyin. Hai4 Chong2, Yuan1 Hun2, E4 Gui3

I just cant make it clear what is Fan-Chong? Rolling Eyes I never heard this two character combined together before. Have you stayed in US for too long? /joking

Oh we are talking about Chinese in English! Well everything will be clear if we just can wrote them down in characters.

fan chong is largely a literal translation, i think. nobody in my neighborhood says fan chong. usually its "fan si ren" (so irritating that even a man can die). if its "you are an annoying pest", then it should be "ni (si zai shi) fan si ren le" or "ni shi zai fan" - for "you are very annoying".

sorr im not sure about "vengeful death".

Aarrgh, now I'm all confused! Maybe it would help if I explain what I need the words for: they are to be used as literally translated names for two characters in a short comic--one is a really annoying type who drives the other to the grave. The other is the vengeful dead. Can't really give more details right now, but, yeah...that's what I need 'em for.

In your case, my translation is the most correct--for character names.

My Chinese is as good as my English. I can read/write classic literature in Chinese, and used to write song lyrics for famous singers in Taiwan(back in 94). So yeah, my chinese is damn good.

煩虫--(Fun-Chong) litereally translates into "annoying" "bug/insect" your average joe might not use this term, but I would say the more witty/creative person would definitely say something like that.

厲鬼--(Li-Gui) litereally translates into "intense/aggravated" and "ghost." Even though "Li" doesn't necessary translate directly into "vengeful," but in the Chinese culture, Li-Gui is the official term used to describe a vengeful ghost(it has its roots in history). For example, if a girl was raped and killed, and her parents are very angry and sad, they might bury her in blood-red clothing. Tradition says that when you bury someone in blood-red clothing, she'll come back as a "li-gui"(vengeful ghost) and hunt down her killer and exact revenge.

Thanks, Lunatique! I will use your suggestions--and thanks for the background on "Li Gui" as well.

EDIT - One more question--in your first post, you wrote "fan-chong", but you put "fun-chong" in your latest one--is either OK, or is one a typo?
