Well, after 6 hours of working I finally finished it!
The only reference i used for this portait of Kelly Hu was from a MAXIM magizine, i just made a base sketch. Here is the sketch i worked with:
Thanks to Randis for his awesome tutorial!

Not another great skin person. *digs hole* haha sorry bout that.
Thats a beautiful picture I think. I really like the hair and the softness of the face.
What did you use to make it? |

ah, very nice! I think there are some lighting issues to be resolved, mainly the overly prominent shadow under her right eyebrow, but otherwise its an impressive pic. _________________ aliensamurai.deviantart.com |

Thanks for the feedback!
Serenity, i used Photoshop 7 to make it. This is actually my first picture in which i tried to mix my colors for skin tones, as opposed to using the dodge/burn tool. I dont think i even used the dodge tool in the face.. just the hair highlights.
Iliya, ya you're right. that shadow is too prominent. I was trying to achieve an eyeshadow/makeup like effect. ill be sure to pay more attention to lighting in my next picture!
any more comments/crits are greatly appreciated! _________________ "Man! I just noticed that I write a lot of fragment sandwiches!" |

You are good at defining shapes with the shadows. The anatomy is good aswell imo. Overall a good job!
Here are some things that I would change tho, not necessarily meaning you want it that way.
First off, I would try to change the color of the face. Add more variety to the color of the face. The color of the face depend on the environment, but its rarely only in just one scale. The skin reflects what's arround it, especially in the darker parts. Then I would try to add more contrast, defining the different parts (eyes, nose, mouth) even more. Last, but not least, i would try adding more texture to the skin, and maybe some wrinkles. Even though we want to, our faces are only perfectly soft when we are babies .
did a quick paintover, hope you dont mind!
Note that this is only what I would do to make it less cartoonish, but who knows, you might want it that way?
Keep 'em coming! ![Very Happy](images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif) _________________ I'm trying, I'M TRYING!

wow! i don't mind at all that you did a paintover kinten!
It looks alot better now! i can see what you mean by adding more variety of color to the face! it definetly looks more realistic, and less yellowish when i compare the two.
Just goes to show you, you learn something new every day!
thanks alot for the feedback kint! ![Very Happy](images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif) _________________ "Man! I just noticed that I write a lot of fragment sandwiches!" |
