Ewan McGregor as Obi Wan Kenobi of course... Wink

The portrayal is quite good, though the proportions could be improved and there is definately a 'skew' or slant in the picture.

With traditional sketching, try and get hold of a rectangular mirror so that you can assertain any proportional errors early on.

Also, watch out for canvas-boxing. What I call an eager desperation to squeeze the picture within the confines of the canvas.

It it Jesus? Your mom? Laughing

I'm just kidding. It's Obi Wan for sure. I agree with ceenda's crits. Other than that, good job.

good job matty....yur improving everyday.

im not gonna get into the anatomy issues but i do have a suggestion or technique that might interest u.

after u have done the basic line drawing try to put dark (much darker than your example) shadows onto the face. this way youd give it more depth. after that you can easily apply colour just withing the areas that dont have shadow in it, theoretically this would mean that Obi Won is sitting in a brown room where his skin tones would be darkened with the dark brown colour (the shadows you applied).and ofcourse u can put highlights on top of the skin tone that u apply in the certain areas where the light directly hits.

its an illustration technique that i learned this year in college is is very effective in its simple form. it works on the theory that the ony reason why u see lighter areas is becasue there is a darker tone behind it. this should also teach you how to get rid of line strokes.

i hope this makes sense and helps anyone of u guys.

anyways keep it up! Laughing

So the Resemblance was there, yea it is Evan Mcgregor as Obi Wan Kenobi. Smile
Thanks for all the replies. Very Happy

- ceenda - There is a skew, hehe I hold the paper against a lamp to get the horizontal flip effect, somehow it got a bit skewed anyway, can be the hair on his left is too big. The mirror tip is super, I have to get me a mirror cause I want to try out some portraits too. The picture was made from a poster I have at home and he actually stood twisted towards the camera. Great crits btw, thank you.

- Mr.Manga - Thank you.

- yorric:: - I would be confused if my Mother would look like that....hehe. Thank you.

- william willette - Whats up with these age questions, I posted the answer in the Thread you mentioned. But anyway, I am 25. Is that too old?

- Max Kulich - yep mouth should be a bit bigger and eyes a bit smaller. The best work eey. Smile Thank you MatteMax...hehe

- paranoid? - hehe, yea he looks a little bit like Chuck Norris...hehe. Thank you.

- merlyns - I tried to keep the colors simple and also keep the sketchy feeling. Thank you.

- Molako_Plus - That is a super-great tip there Molako I am gonna try that next. I havent thought about it that way, that the lighter areas has darker tones behind them. Light and color values is always confusing, lets just say that there would be 3 light sources in front of a face, that should erase any shadow and only keep the middle values left, or? hmm, have to dig up some books about lighting and such. Thank you Molako, great tip.

I hope I didnt sound to monotonic in my answers.
have a nice weeekend
Matthew
