To be perfectly honest all of us are downloading images of others just for some personal purposes like for example to study techniques, as references or to do whatever else. I personally keep a collection of best pictures on my hard drive so I could have a look on some images any time I want to use it as a reference or for a practice.
Being busy doing my job I've been missing lots of topics so I didn't see lots of great images all the people post here. Because of that I've created a simple program that has retrieved all the images that were ever posted here. All images are stored along with the information about the author and the topic so I could manage them more effectively.
This was a perfect opportunity to count the value everyone has brought into the community. I've put all the information about pictures, authors, topics and what else into a database on one of my boxes and performed some calculations.
And now you can enjoy the statistics of image postings from the begging till now:
- http://paully.com/tmp/sijun/images.100.html (top 100 by images)
- http://paully.com/tmp/sijun/imageso.100.html (top 100 by images online)
- http://paully.com/tmp/sijun/topics.100.html (top 100 by topics with images)
P.S. Hope I've done no harm to everybody _________________ CyberLink | paully.com |

Woohoo!!! Im on the top 15 on all pages !!!! YAY!
seriously tho..I think this is pretty cool. I dont see any harm by it.. I vote keep it around.
it'd be neat if each nick name brought you to their profile or the page that displays "all posts by <user>" |

Hey Cyberlink,
I'm curious as to your algorithm for 'top'?
Did you do this with Perl and LWP? |

Unfrotunately I had no intention to create any kind of lists like that so no user IDs are stored in my database and I don't know the way how the forum engine can lookup user ID by the name. Thus it would require enough efforts and time to scan all the member list for the user ID to nickname mapping.
Who knows may be there is a way. But... definetely not tonight Tonight it's time for a GFs already

http://paully.com/tmp/sijun/g.txt (perl source)
But this is not the code that has been used to produce all the lists. That's just downloader.
When the download was complete (took about 2 days and a half on a dedicated 100Mbps connection) I've used another script to push all the data to the special table in the database and one more script to compute the top data (MySQL sucks because it doesn't support query inside a query like DB2). The HTML for the lists has been produced manually by hands, FAR and a few weird regular expressions.
P.S. The legend of the top is at the bottom of each page.
P.P.S. If anyone likes to download images just like I did I can send you saved permanent state files for the script (not earlier than on monday) so you will be downloading just images but not all the forum and will save traffic for Dhabih. _________________ CyberLink | paully.com |

I think that to keep it around a module for the forum has to be created to work with post database directly Otherwise it's quite complicated to do it on a regular basis
The problem is that pbpBB is not returning the proper modifycation time value in the HTTP header. Every time it returns the "now" date that makes tracking changes of the forum using just HEAD requests near to be impossible To run all the script makes about 6 Gb of traffic now So that isn't the proper way to maintain such lists by scanning the forum.
Anyway if people know that they are counted in some cases that knowledge makes some of them to speculate by faking the results So I think it's good this way. Otherwise it's additional headache to respectable moderators _________________ CyberLink | paully.com |

The amount of value is not equal to it's quality of course But Flat also doesn't allow us to be bored _________________ CyberLink | paully.com |

Mysql 4.1 supports subqueries, but it's alpha. |

Wow, I didn't think I'd posted that much over the past two years. I can only remember a handful of threads I've started.
As a side note, I wish Micke would keep up with his record. |

Grumble
@ balistic : I still cannot believe that you of all people would "side with" Pat on that admittedly pointless Mac-bashing thread.
Did you even bother to read the "completely whacked" posts, or are you Pats mostly gay friend or something ...???
... and for some reason ... I'm on the list too ... 100+ pictures ... that sounds unlikely _________________ "Ya cain't rush Art" - Geri, Toystory 2 |

(in case you couldn't tell, I'm not the type who takes internet arguments all that seriously. I wouldn't say that I've become a troll, but I do find humour in just how worked-up some people will get about things like operating systems and graphics software) |

@ merlyns:
You see that "no" in the lensflares image? It was the answer to the question "will lenslares ever be hip again" or something like that as far as I remember! _________________ http://www.conceptworld.org |

@ balistic
Teheheh ... I think Roundeye must have worked as an intern for MapQuest,
and cleverly renamed Uruguay in his quest for world domination.
Worked-up ?? sheesh ... if I say [two plus two is four], and someone else
"corrects" me and says "your mathskills are completely whacked; on the
contrary, [2+2=4]" I tend to get a little confused.
Oh well ... I'm probably guilty of trolling here and there too ... but I think you
should revoke or reformulate my certificate since I didn't really learn much
from my encounter with Pat, other than his [unlikely informed] insider info on
Apple shares that is ... I guess I'm just another daft artfag ...
I'm not sure I buy your argument about not taking internet arguments seriously
though, since you quite vehemently defend your perceptions or opinions
when it comes to topics such as "Vegans" or "Is there a God" or such other
topics that seems to tickle your brains ... eventhough such topics are equally
hopelessly headed nowhere ... so I'd accuse you of getting quite worked-up
yerself ... and I'm NOT saying that is such a bad thing ...
I'd say its at least half the fun of this place ...
... after replying to endless Wacom info requests of course ... _________________ "Ya cain't rush Art" - Geri, Toystory 2 |

Like I said, t'was nothin' personal. Was just trying to lighten up a tired thread. And I do sometimes still get sucked into debate threads, though it happens less and less . . . I was being deliberately over the top in the vegan one, I'm surprised anyone paid attention to me _________________ brian.prince|light.comp.paint |

Relax Dude ... I'm not shaking my fists in furious anger at you or plotting to
"fix" the brakepump in your car or anything, I'm merely having a bit of a
flashback to that old thread after seeing my diploma, no raised bloodpressure,
no feelings hurt or any such thing.
By the way, unless you were only fishing for compliments, you shouldn't
underestimate your writings here and there either, your comments are
razorsharp, and well-informed and often bringing facts to the table that are
hopelessly hard to argue, and usually well worth reading ... now come and give
me a big hug ... oh and I swear I won't hog this thread anymore with worthless
off-topic waffle ... _________________ "Ya cain't rush Art" - Geri, Toystory 2 |
