Hi, with the help of several nice tuts here, I tried a mythological themed battle scene based on AoM, this is what I have so far:

some wip images.
Had lots fun with the details on the armies and such, and still attemping to fix the horse's anatomy... methinks the pic looks quite unpolished at the moment, and was wondering what I could do to improve it.
Critiques or suggestions are welcome! ![Very Happy](images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif)

I like evrything so far. Right now the lightness of the background is making the wings not stand out very well. The contrast in the background is nice, but should probably be pushed into the background more by darkening it some. More contrast and details in the foreground "dragons" would help to bring them to the foreground as well. The, what I'm assuming is a paper, texture in the top left corner is out of place. It's a pretty cool piece so far. I can't wait to see it finished. |

Dear Hunago,
i think you're picture is really cool. It's super atmospheric. I like the light to dark thing. it looks like an amazing battle. I think that the horse's front legs aren't in the most kickass pose that they could be. having said that, I know nothing, so ignore what I say (except that it's a cool picture). |

hi pritch: Totally agree with what you said. I'll darken the background and sharpen more details for the dragon/hydra. and the paper texture, think I was trying to give the sky a sooty, brooding, and ominous feel, all in one simple step. ;p Seemed to end up with a flat generic look... I'd better redo it again with a brush.
dear the clan oth: Glad you liked it. I shall fiddle around with the foot some more, just realised her left forehoof was far bigger than the right one too... ah, and I have little experiences really, still fumbling and trying out in most stuffs. it's good to know what you think.
Thanks you two for the comments. I'll start fix those things up. ^_^ |

After fixing some stuffs as per thy suggestion, I'm a lot happier with the pic now.
here is an updated version.
Also made a few quick sketches for the leg, but I still couldn't decide which one looks better.

is that horse charging?
if so, put his two hind legs closer together and have them stretched backwards a little bit more. this will enhance the impression that it is charging forwards.
now i think perhaps it's kneeling in front of the dragons or something.
hope this helps ![Smile](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

thanks for your help
I agree with what you said about charging, I originally had a charging pose in mind, then tried with stretching out the front legs for a landing, then settled for a mid-canter pose with the hind-legs coiled and ready to kick out at the hydra head behind.
I'll keep what you said in mind and try some more, thanks! ![Smile](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |
