Hi there..

I've bought the bridgman book and read them - but i really dont think they made me any better. So do you guys out there have some tips in using these books? Should I redraw the pages or?

The idea behind Bridgman's method is that you're meant to simplify human anatomy down into basic 3D shapes. In practice, this method does help in keeping correct proportions and foreshortening, though I would guess you'd get a lot more out of the book if you were also taking a figure drawing class at the same time.

Most of the Bridgman stuff is probably hard to appreciate if you've never had a live model in front of you.

Either look into taking some classes to compliment the book, or find a local group of artists who schedule figure drawing sessions periodically. You might have to phone some art museums or local artists' clubs, but I would bet that there's some life drawing going on near you no matter where you live. There's really no substitute for it.

Bridgman is good, but it's not a book of step-by-step techniques so much as it is an explanation of a particular principle.
