Hi, people! I was accused at gfxartist by Martin that I paint over my works.
http://www.desktopwallpapers.ru/models/download/?pic=109
- found link to reference for my work Judith, I must to show this link first, it's my very big fault.
http://www.cemener.net/guzeller/casta/la101.jpg - link from my galleries
I AGREE, that it is copyrigt violation. But when I've draw my work, I did not thinked about violation, and I don't painted it over!!!! I'm glad to receive your comments, people, it helps and learns me a lot.
I want to show my pen work, good for my mood today.
I don't undestand, how it can be only possible to accuse me!! _________________ My epilogue gallery

Hey Serg! First off that's a damn fine picture you've got there, a bit undefined around the edges but great nontheless.
There will always be 14yearolds who jump at every opportunity to batter and offend you. Photographs are great for reference, no question about that, but the issue of copyright violation is real and should be taken seriously. If you're doing a painting just for yourself, your mum and your friends then you don't have to give it a second thought. If you're making money off of it then you should be more careful.
If the subject of the picture is recognisable and true to the original photo you might get sued (after all, someone put a lot of time, energy and money into making a photograph and you're using that to make money)
But that's beside the point. This Martin guy probably got jelaous because you're so good
Don't think too hard about it. You can't be loved by everyone in the world.
Cheers!

The reason people are accusing you of tracing is because it's blatantly obvious that you did. Now, I'm not judging you at all. You obviously have a lot of talent, which is evident in this piece. And I'm not even saying that tracing is necessarily a bad thing, if used for learning purposes. I think it can be great to study different form and to practice technique. But if you are actually doing so, at least admit it. The features here line up almost perfectly. There is some modification evident, especially in the arm and neck, but there's no way to nail the proportions that well without tracing in some way. |

<sniff> do i smell jealousy in the air?
c'mon Tinusch, how do u know that serge isnt just an incredible portrait artist or somethin? If i worked super hard on somethin, somethin that i though looked exactly like my ref, and posted it, i would be outraged if someone accused me of tracing.
So his drawing matches up with the ref, so what? Even if he did trace it, it would take mad skill to do a painting like the one he did, so y not quite accusin 'im and start appreciating his work! NOW!
ps, serg, that painting is super nice. _________________ -Chase |

Thank very much for your comments! People founded the reference link to my work, but always after I answered question - who was your model? Almost everywhere, where I showed my work "Judith", people give link to reference. My error was to not give reference when I showed the work first time. But only at gfx I was accused in painting over. I have nothing against Martin. But I can't be calm, when people are speaking about my works. I want they speak justly. That's why I show everywhere my pen works. I really sometimes sorry that I did "Judith". So much unpleasant things I received from this work. _________________ My epilogue gallery

Serg... It's a wonderful piece of work and your drawings are lovely... The animated gif that Tinusch displayed seems to benefit your point of view... There are enouigh difference to prove that it was not a paint over... In fact I'm not sure why it's being used as proof that you paint over or trace your reference material... The colors are completely different as are the relationships between shape and form... _________________ HonePie.com

Personally speaking, I don't think Serg traced this, and I'll even go as far as to say I'm not convinced Malachi traces either, but, that's just my personal oppinion. Sorry Tinusch for disagreeing (and Hi btw! =).
I think it's a decent looking picture, where you've added a little bit of your own (smile, etc.). The neck is too thin, as shown in the comparison pic as well.
If you want my oppinion though, don't post these sort of pics in forums or people will jump at your throat. If you want to do them for practice and learning, great, but people have problems with those (as shown above and in the Malachi (and Fallen) threads). If you want to post work, try to paint something that is not 100% as the source... use the photo as reference, but turn the head, change the lighting, etc... challenge yourself beyond tyring to copy a photo. Copying values from a photo without understanding anatomy, lighting, etc is pointless and you'll be stuck forever doing photo copies. This is a good place for learning, and you should take advantage of that and try to improvise a little more (beyond just changing the smile a little), challenge yourself and your knowledge, expand your horizons.
That's all I have to say.
Good luck. |

Thank you!! Eyewoo, I've taken the reference, which they showed to my nose a lot and I'm so happy to hear your words! Especially about forms. The more similar face artist draw, the worse for artist!!?? It's so unpleasant. But I agree, that it was violation. It's hard to say, but I agree. Frost, I agree with you, I work a lot for this and try to do. I'm very glad, that you people said me about this, because it helps to learn. _________________ My epilogue gallery

Serg, the painting is nice, I've told you that much already. I feel it has a lack of hard edges, but other than that it's very well rendered.
As stated above. There will always be immature jerks out there that either can't fathom that an artists can paint realistic works without tracing/painting over the ref, or are just plain jealous that you posses a skill that they will never have.
When I get accused of something like that, I simply refer them to the full resolution cut-outs I provide with my posts. If they can't tell that it's obviously a freehand painting by looking at the piece at full res, then there's nothing I can do to prove it to them and I might as well stop wasting my breath/time in trying to "convince" them. Because when it comes right down to it, who really cares what an over zealous, uneducated teenager thinks about your work. Ya know?
I'd suggest you post some full res cut-outs along with your work. That should end a lot of folks doubts about the validity of it right there.
Anyway, good work dude. Keep it up.

Malachi, thank you very much! I have never doubt about your skills and I'm very glad to hear this! I think I need to upload more sized versions of works. Thank you for advice. _________________ My epilogue gallery
