Any one know what happened to that guy who was going to cut off his feet over webcam? That was pretty funny.
I don't think this is really as shocking as it seems, except for that it seems to be written by one of those neophobe journalists who are more willing to criticize internet subculture than try to understand it.
College kids die every year from stupid binge drinking while their friends cheer them on, and rock and roll fans routinely cheer their idols into an early grave. _________________ QED, sort of. |

the media's late on that. dovee.org had the stuff online a while ago.
"Vedas died online as a crowd of virtual onlookers egged him to "eat more!"" "one gleeful voyeur"
i wonder what helen kennedy was on.
""These people treat it like somehow it's not the real world," he said. "They forget it's not just words on a screen.""
same for his bro'. _________________ "hey, wanna dance?"

exactly. i think what the guy is missing out on is that it isn't that they don't realize that "it's real life", it's that it is real life. the same thing people would do without a webcam. someone i used to know in school od'ed recently in a room full of people, and all they would of had to do is wake him up and he would of lived (literally).
but hey, let's blame the webcam and onlookers for his death, after all, ignoring the fact that there wasn't much they could do, and much worse things happen in real life every day goes hand in hand with being generally ignorant. better yet, let's just blame video games and the internet in general (wait... what were gi joes again? toys emulating war? but whatever, i remember people blaming gi joes when there was no internet, and toy guns for cops shooting kids. people want any reason but the real one).

Pretty weird. I read that entire convo. Oea was about the only one trying to help, but he/she was undecided on if it was just a prank or not and most thought it was so he got off the phone with the police. Too bad ppl actually play pranks like that or maybe his live could've been saved. ![Rolling Eyes](images/smiles/icon_rolleyes.gif) _________________ My signature is irrelevant |

Huh? Shouldn't that be "Too bad some people are stupid enough to knowingly mix six different kinds of drugs and take a lot of each of them, somehow believing that no matter how much they ingest or how fucked up they get that they'll be ok"?
That man was a dumbass. This isn't some little kid, it was an adult, who knows what drugs do. I can't say that I'm all broken up that he's gone, I'm just glad that he didn't hurt anyone else. |
