I was wondering if anybody has experience with multiple Wacom tablets. If I can get some feedback I'd appreciate it.
Here's the situation. I have 2 monitors, and only 1 Graphire2. This means that if I want to have the tablet proportional to my desktop, then I can only use the top (or bottom) half of my tablet. This means that 1 19" monitor only has the area of a quarter of the size of a 4x5 graphire2.
I have noticed that the drivers have a feature on the menu bar that says 'add tablet'.... so, maybe I can get another Graphire2, and use the drivers to allocate that area to the 2nd monitor?
Thanks in advance! |

in your wacom settings you can restrict the active area for your wacom to one monitor alone. that would at least make it proportional to half your desktop.
i've never tried to add a second tablet though. _________________

The Intuos has a setting to use it in portrait mode... i.e. twisted 90 degrees. Don't know if the Graphire has the same capability, but if so, give it a try. That way the top half and bottom half can be totally used up while keeping aspect raitios accurate.
I use two monitors (stacked - not side-by-side) with my tablet in portrait mode. Works great. _________________ HonePie.com

Interesting suggestion eyewoo, but stacking my monitors isn't an option.
haohmar: That is what I'm going to have to do for now. To bad there isn't a shortcut to switch which monitor it is binded too... |

....... WOW, to think for a second... Its a great idea, that way I could paint with two of my feet and play nintendo with my heands. Talk about multi tasking . ...just kidding! (I couldn't resist) I too haven't heard of anyone succeeding at that. Could it even be done? well anyway those wacom and sony people should invent a double-width monitor and a super stretched wacom board to go along with it. It would be nice if it cost under 3000$ too. AHHHhhhhh dreaming again _________________ I want to breed! |

I just purchased a refurb. Graphire2. It ships on Monday. I will post in this forum what I think about the setup if you guys want to hear...
I will bind tablet 1 to monitor 1, and tab 2 to mon 2. It should work out pretty nice! |

When I installed my Cintiq, I left my Intuous II installed at first. Not armageddon, but close. So I wouldn't recommend it. Not only will it not work but it will wreak almost irrevocable havoc on your sys.
After I concluded that it clearly was not coing to work, I tried to get rid of one of the tablets, and that's when I realized that I'd bought myself a whole world of pain. It wasn't enough to just unhook the uneeded hardware after shutdown and reboot. It wasn't enough to unistall all Wacom drivers and then only install the new Cintiq driver. Oh no. It required a super duper extra special three hour long fiddly unistall, including several calls to Wacom support. And after that, I basically got my machine working like it used to before my disastrous experiment (except with my new tablet).
Wacom's never been particularly strong about coopertaing with other devices, even other Wacom stuff. I got my first Wacom tablet in 95, and it lasted about three weeks before becoming a mousepad. Why? It hated mice. The same fate befell my second tablet. So my advice to you is: don't tempt the Wacom voodo demons!
cheers

This is an email discussion between Dan at wacom tech support and me. I hope that this might benefit somebody out there, it helped me out!

Hi,
I currently am running a dual monitor configuration on my win2k system. I
was wondering if I would be able to plug in an additional Graphire2 tablet,
and have that refer to the 2nd monitor, and have the 1st tablet refer to the
1st monitor. Right now, to keep the axis proportional, I have to quarter
the area I can use on my tablet, and this is problematic. Thanks. |

Yes you can run 2 Graphires. All you need to do is plug another one in and
the driver you have will automatically recognize the tablet.
Then go into mapping, set one tablet for monitor 1, and the other for
Monitor 2. If you have any questions or problems let me know.

Me:

1: Windows 2k doesn't recognize 2 monitors. It is my nVidia drivers
that make the multi-monitor feature available. Win2k only sees one
wide display area. The Wacom drivers are the same way. So I wouln't
be able to specify 'Monitor 1' or 'Monitor 2' like a user in XP can.
However, I still have the option to map Tablet 1 to a 'Portion of
Display...' which would be my 1st monitor, and likewise for the 2nd
tablet with the 2nd monitor? If this is so then I'm getting another
Graphire2!
2: How many tablets do the drivers support? Can I have this driver
recognize both a Graphire2 and an Intuos2 in this same manner?
3: If I do get 2 Graphire2's hooked up, can I use 1 pen for both of
the tablets? This would be very convenient. Otherwise, I'd have to
drop pen1 and pick up pen2 when I switched over, and this would get
annoying pretty quick.
Thanks in advance!

1. Depends on which nVidia card you have.
2. I have 7 tablets on this computer, I am not sure how many it will
support. I have never had more than 10 tablets available.
3. A Graphire pen will work on any Graphire tablet. |

I have 14 tablets running on my computer, all running smoothly. Only 3 are intuoses, but I use them for most of my work. I have one covering my entire desktop area (spanning my five monitors), and one for each of the 23" trinitrons. I have a cintiq set up, and I've placed Photoshop's color palette in that section of screen space - works really well, almost like using a real artist's palette! Then I've got a bunch of graphires for specific screen areas where I regularly paint. Works pretty well, but you need a lot of space if you're going to attempt this! |
