Hi guys and gals of the digital realm, this is the day I join thee in thy virtual world of thingamajig and thingamabob....

Okay, introduction passed. The following link is my dedication (or a tribute) to the Monolith/Sierra studios that brought us the fantastic No One Lives Forever and its sequel- a Spy in H.A.R.M.'s way!

Cate Archer pin up poster (done in Painter Classic and backdropped in Photoshop)
http://www.geocities.com/jerotest/catearcher.jpg

if the link above does not work, please copy and paste the url to another browser to view it properly.. just in case Smile

*p.s. I can't find a very suitable image hosting site.. (damn them for their new pay-for-our-service policy!!!) So the best I can do to contribute to this fantastic forum (Sijun must be godsend Smile ) is to link my images to my old geocities account.... until anyone of you have a better suggestion for me instead)

by the way, as is the norm of this forum all crits are always welcome!

Wow Shocked the image is great. Do you have experience in traditional art?

You can register at www.deviantart.com and submit your images there. There was something in the Digital Art Discussion ... try www.web1000.com !?

I'm looking forward to seeing more from you...

Whoa.. I didn't expect replies to come so quickly...

Thanks Zap.br, flp and AndyT for taking all the troubles to copyURL-opennewbrowser-pasteURL to check out my piece...

Thanks again for your comments..
zap.br... you suggested that I should make the clothes sharper... do you mean to make the clothes more fine-lined?

flp... don't jump of the window!!! the world always need more creative artists like us!!

AndyT- I don't know about using web1000 because I heard that site is more connected to porn according to one discussion in the discussion board. but I'll give it a try anyway..
Furthermore, I've registered at DevianArt, but have yet to post any images there because of the current image hosting problem...
And yes, i've plenty of 'traditional' experience! You can check out my portfolio at http://www.geocities.com/jeromemoo

thanks so much for all your support!![/url]

Hooray, I've finally registered for a good reliable (for now) web hosting.... I hope people just don't start associating me to whatever web1000 is famous for. Rolling Eyes

Thanks again, AndyT!! Cool

Very nice. Two small crits: her nose could be a little smaller and more femanine. Also those boots are too big and klunky (not sexy at all). You captured the anatomy on the knees so well, and then give her boots that make her calves, ankles and feet look big. Nice rendering on the leather btw.

I've just browsed your portfolio and..
hooray I don't have to kill myself Very Happy

You are really good. And I appreciate traditional work very very much.So I think you first digital painting gotta be of that quality. But I don't want to underestimate the problems you probably had switching the medium.
Another thought that came up to me is that I think that traditional artist have something common with their style. Most digital artist do not have pics showing some voodoopriest along with some tigers. They do other things like hidden military facilities, mechs and robots and juicy girls Very Happy

Something that doesn't fit in my thought is that yous just painted a NOLF2 pic but maybe this is your approach to digital art Very Happy

But what do you think about this?

Hi Jeromoo! I see you got hang of the digital painting very fast! I do though agree with the boot crits and I'm not very fond of the background and typography. But hey, don't get discouraged of the crits. You are far better painter than I am and I think most of the pictures on your site are fabulous. This picture is also in my opinion a very promising start to your digital career. =)

hmm I think the background and the typography is perfect cause it makes you think "yeah... seventies... JuNgLe BoOgIe..." And isn't this the time nolf plays in?

Hey thanks... you guys are definetely right about her boots being rather big. My cousin sister pointed that out to me beforehand saying that her boots are too big and not sexy enough.. she also added that nobody cares about practicality, only that everybody prefers clothes/fashion that compliments a beautiful woman's form. (everytime I paint a picture I always think of practicality over style.. so I guess its time to change that mindset!)

Chthonic Divinity- yeah I do guess that the foreground of her boots is a bit strange, maybe in size... after all, its all pure imagination with fashion references from the main character on the game box cover. So I still need to work on my anatomy skill Smile

flp- yeah you are right... I do guess that traditional and digital arts play different roles... like, which approach should we use for this kind of art, traditional or digital? For me, digital approach should not replace the traditional in a few areas especially portraiture. In portrait painting, digital style will not be able to bring out the soul and meaning to the painting. I used to think that digital approach is best for doing commercial and entertainment stuff.
so my painting the nolf2 painting is the very testament to my opinion on digital painting. I wonder if you or anyone else think the otherwise?

Inspector Lee- Make her nose small?? Shocked gosh... maybe that would make her less mature, more kidlike kind of way. Actually, I rather make all my character's faces less than perfect because it gives them strong distinction, and as natural as possible. But you could be right if I give it a try anyway... Hmm I wonder if British girls like Elizabeth Hurley got small noses? How about Julia Roberts? or Barbra Streisand?? Very Happy

SolarC- Hi SolarC, thanks for your comments, but please don't comment on who's the better painter... I believe some people have talent for something others don't have, so that makes us all on the equal level. I say that because I know what's my weakness and its not very good indeed Smile Regarding the background, the idea is based on the NOLF2 style of game which is based on the sixties era, hence the typography and the half-toned wallpaper.
Actually, i don't know if I'm better off doing digital or traditional.. I took up digital painting to expand my artistic skill. So what happened afterwards i will leave it to fate Smile

I'm now working on a new painting and I hope to post it over soon! Thank you guys for your generous encouragement!
