I love both the painting and the sketch.

I prefer the expression on the girls face in the sketch, I prefer her appearance.
Brillinat though!

I think you made a tutorial without knowing it.
I can imagine the whole progress just by looking on them.

They're great and your style is also fantastic.
I love the warm colors and your knowledge about anatomy which everybody can see in your artworks.

I have one little crit: i think her right forearm is too long.
Or the sword is too far away.
Well, you can't see that but she would't reach the sword I think.

Anyway, this one is by far one of the best images I have seen from you!!

Nice Cos, although like Capt Fred, I prefer the girls head in the sketch. Her expression just seems to be more powerful in the sketch. More arrogant. Also, the skin on the face seems very tight, and too smooth, especially in comparison with the rest of the painting. Seems to throw it off in my view.

i agree with the previous comments, there's something lost in the careful painting of her head, your concentration and corrections show through and make it a little stiff, the head in the sketch was great to begin with. i think the painted head is also positioned more forward on her neck than on the sketch.

great work, nonetheless. im a fan of your pencil sketches.

Um.. I like the painted head ver. better. It's has a more feminine personality with it, but still looks tough. Whatever though, nice work as usual cos.

Thanks for the response people, I agree something was lost from the sketch, I felt the same by the end result.

What bothered me most about what was lost, was some of the life in the wild sketchy pencil lines. Have to start making more of an effort to get that into my brush strokes in future.

This was a fairly sketchier and faster painting than my usual working process, done to take a break between freelance assignments. Considering that, I was fairly happy with the painting. I don't plan to retun to it, but again thanks for the constructive comments and crits.

Hey cos, just a quick note to say I love the palette in this pic. Very uniform, but at the same time a great dynamic range of values.

very beautiful tones! so nice.. like it a lot.

seems like her head is a bit flattened like / her eyes are quite high in proportion to whole head... I didn't read all replies if someone has said that before.. anyway.. this is beautiful!

Nice. Love the brushwork you do, I remember another piece you did years(?) ago with a big panther thing and I still loved the brushwork and palette then.

[quote="Cos"]"Thanks for the response people, I agree something was lost from the sketch, I felt the same by the end result.

I think it was a bit of severity in the face. The pencil looked a lot harder, weather worn woman, fit/hard. The cheeks come across a bit softer in this one, no blemishes, imperfections in the skin and she has more fat on her cheeks/under the lips giving her that cheerleader type of face as opposed to the hard arsed bitch type of face, (all be it a very cute hard arsed bitch!). Also the jaw insn't as firmly set in the painting, in the sketch it is out there for the world to see, just asking someone to take a swipe. The painting seems to have pulled it in a bit, relaxing the mouth and dropping the head ever so slightly, but hey, I've just realised I'm babbling, (it's way past my bedtime......)

Sorry if I've carried on a bit.... Embarassed

Love the pic all the same tho and the rougher style. Good to see you back. (Liked the sketches on the other thread too btw)

Have fun.

Jason N - Hey man, great values in your own paintings! Thanks Jason.

Robcamp - Rob Thanks! Nice of you to say so.

Juhis - Thanks, the eye may be slightly high actually.

Flat - To have the mainman like either is an honour, *swells with pride all over again* Wink

silverwolf - I did actually mean the wild lines in the whole picture where've you quoted me, not just the head. I do agree with some of the comments on her face.

Usually, I will go for more a rugged masculine style warrioress character, as I just find it to be a little more realistic (and catch complaints she's not pretty enough), this time around I wanted to paint her this way, and get complaints she's too pretty. Can't please them all Smile

Personally I don't mind either face, just the direction I decided to take it, sorry it hasn't worked out for everyone. Neither is wrong which is the main thing for me.

Thanks for the comments tho! Glad you liked the sketches too.

(btw, not sure what you mean by good to see u back, I never left. I also never posted anything with a panther.)

beautiful face... sexy lips.. like what they have said earlier, the eyelashes on her right eye is a bit overdone...

I feel there's something wrong with her right elbow area...

it would be nice if you can show a bit more of the rest of her body and the sword she's weilding.

just my opinions! keep it up

Another great pair of pics from you Cos! There's a lot of energy in the drawing, the pencil strokes really bring her to life Smile

Jero - The elbow is behind the forearm muscle, you can't actually see it from that angle. I agree opening up the canvas would have been a nice idea, just stopped it pretty short.

Bg - nice to see you can appreciate the drawing side aswell as the painting! Very Happy

Noooice mate. Still seeing the bisley influence in there (mostly in the way the far side of her face is in shadow), which is no bad thing of course.
what line of work are you in cos? only asking cause i assume you do this for a living.
