There's a "new media" scholarship at my school, and I was thinking of doing this to be spiffy and all that. Do you think this is good application material? What should I do?
Anyway, with the shitty weather and all, I peeled the ice off of a leaf and took a picture as a reference. I don't think my picture makes the leaf look transparent enough. I'll post more when I the shadows in place. Thanks.

nothing wrong with this start..I imagine it would be worth going in with some smaller brushes to get some of the tiny cracks and bubbles ...but you know - as far as a 'new media' scholarship - I think they would be impressed to see more of an exploration of media, rather than a replication of traditional skills done on the computer - I would try some Wharhol inspired grid paintings, taking this leaf painting, your original photo, and then trying a whole pile of different filters and techniques for interpreting the same image. I believe you'll impress them more with a lot of experimentation, than with one perfect image. (That's been my experience with art classes)...

Thanks for the tip.
I thought about it for a while -- you're right. I was going for a realistic-but-obviously-computer-made look, but it's a pretty boring composision. I think I'm going to make a sort of 'timeline' of the progress of the picture. Real sloppy stages, different sizes, sort of a collage. Call it Evolution of a frozen Leaf. |
