...and I have a pretty good logo and domain name. I'm wondering whether it might be worth something... the logo and the domain name. What do you think?

The logo:

The domain name: uiux.com

UI and UX - sorta buzz acronyms in the biz for User Interface, User eXperience.

I think the logo needs work, but I can't tell you how. It just looks.. unpersuasive. Maybe a new font? Different colors?

Eh? What are you trying to do, eyewoo?
The logo is alright though, but yes i think the text on the right makes it worse, and maybe the blue color does as well..

i think your problem lies in the fact that you have the logo and text "floating" making this rather...static.... in my opinion... um i do agree that it could use a better font....try to arrange the type and logo so that it becomes unified...perhaps grounding some of the type or 'logo' uiux i guess what im getting at is the lovely word used commonly in design as gestalt which is a configuration or pattern of elements so unified as a whole that it cannot be described merely as a sum of its parts. (im sure you are already well aware of this...just ramblings in my head at the moment...for now.)

who knows mebe someone out there needs it *shrugs*

Well... thanks for the crit on the logo... I always rather liked it. Been using it for several years - http://www.uiux.com - , but, at any rate, the value here I think is the domain name. What do you think? Does UIUX.COM have any worth -- to a website designer?

Just my thoughts:

Hmmmm...I tend to think that the logo by itself isn't compelling, but when I see within the constructs of the page layout it looks ok. The contrasting colors in the logo are definitely in accordance for branding development (although I would personally explore something not so "primary" in value). Kick the logo out more - have more fun with it; what's there now seems pretty basic for conventional 2 or 3 color prepress stuff (bizcards, letterheads, etc); take advantage of the broader spectrum of onscreen color values, but stay within the established palette (if you want).

The site has only one real visual punch, and that's the red from the logo. I would be more diverse with the site; explore using even a broader palette - throw that web safe stuff away! If you're offering design services you should try to exercise more creativity, but remember the fine line between design and user experience - don't over-design. You have a good start on the layout, as there appears to be a solid grid, but some of the center aligned elements sort of break it.

My two cents, Mr. Eyewoo!

The web colors and general visuals are good for a technical support web of something like microwaves... it's really basic and technical, but if you want to showcase yourself as a websites designer, there's no design in yours Wink

I'll follow Tom's advice.

eyewoo, why don't you just post it up on eBay and see how it goes? I mean what's the difference if someone says here "yeah that domain name is so excellent, it costs $10,000" or "what? that's gibberish, it dont cost a cent"
hehe.

OK... I'm not really being understood here... probably my probelm.

At any rate... let me make it simple. I'm retiring from website design. My UIUX website has been up for years and I'm taking it down soon. Kaput...! So, given that, it occured to me that I may have something of value in the UIUX.COM domain name -- i.e. putting the domain name up for sale... ...and, as a bonus, perhaps throwing in the UIUX logo...

So... does that make it any more clear. -- Do you think the domain name has any value? How does one put a value on domain names? What's the best way of selling them if they have value?

Actually Eyewoo - that was clear from the start, but I did get somewhat misdirected by other posts. Sorry, man. Embarassed

Shizo's suggestion seems pretty good - try eBay. I like the name and think it has merit. You might also want to try going to and posting on some forums specific to UI design and information architecture.

Yes...eBay is a good place to put it... but I'm not sure what to set as a reserve price??? Anyone know what a relatively good domain name is worth in a niche market? $100..? $1000..? $10,000..?

i'd say start big, like at the 1000 mark, and if that doesn't work out for you, then half it and repost (if ebay allows it) then just keep doing that until someone buys it I suppose.

"its the haggleing way"

My thoughts on it are... uiux has no immidiate value to me so its hard to say ...like if you owned somehting like conceptartist.com or digitalpainter.com then I would be like " hell yeah sell that baby " ...but uiux is just a couple of letters to me ..what makes a domain name valueable is the clarity behind it..like when I wanna find information about bus tickets I just type in greyhound.com or if I want info on pepsi I just type in pepsi.com uiux has no clear meaning so it's value is more in what you took from it... just my take Shocked

OK... I figured out what to do with UIUX, at least for the moment... I've converted the site to an affiliated site with TemplateMonster.com . They produce website design templates - html and flash. Some interesting stuff, certainly usable for many biz applications. At any rate, what do you think? Check it out at http://www.uiux.com

I've now officially quit website design and am illustrating fulltime... feel real good about that... Very Happy
