There shouldn't be any reason for your saved files to disappear after a common crash . . . have you tried using the Windows find feature to search for them? Search by just part of the filename, or by files modified in the last couple days. Also, what kind of media were you saving them on? On your hard disk? Try running scan disk on it to see if you've got bad sectors or something. How much free disk space do you have?

"Buy Mac" . . . jeez. Real helpful, captain troll.

Not sure if that makes a difference but did you save different stages with different filenames?

He's calling you a troll because you're making inflammatory comments about Windows and suggesting he switch to Macs, without providing any reason why he should do so. You should have stuck with the sentence in the middle of your post.

I think that windows caches the thumbnails that it makes in directories in a similar way that Photoshop, Painter or Paint Shop Pro creates a file containing smaller versions of all the pictures in a directory.

Unfortunately, I think that the thumbnail you see is cached and the original image is possibly gone.

Drew-Thanks for the tip. Sure wish you were around with that insight before I made such an ass out of myself. Boy do I feel silly. But seriously thanks for pointing it out. You should apply for a Moderator position. I posted what I posted because I dislike Windows and because no Mac I have ever used has ever crashed, hence Nirox's unfortunate predicament. Sure hope you're not too sore at me......

thats when my computer crashed

i cant save my older version of the saved file on my d drive
but i did find that temp file on my e drive....

its the only thing left on my computer that resembles that image i was working on

and yes ive searched using the search feature in windows...
i was just woundering if there was something i could do to un-curropt that psd i have...

No hard feelings shawn, but it gets really tiring when every single discussion related to computers on the internet always has at least three platform fan-boys spewing their religion back and forth without actually contributing anything of value.

All you're doing when you post stuff like that is encouraging people to post similarly pointless messages to counter yours, such as:

"LUNIXLUNIXLUNIX!!1!"

or

"MACS R 4 HIPPIES"

Nirox: There's nothing you can run that will un-corrupt a file. Your picture is dead dude, sorry. Make sure that Windows and Photoshop aren't using the D drive as swap space. If they were trying to use the D drive to swap, and it filled up, it could've caused the crash.

Nirox you should put your Photoshop Scratch as a seperate partition which has nothing on it appart from the scratch, depending on the files you work on the average swap partion size is 2Gb.

if he wanted advice on which computer to buy i'm sure he would have asked for it shawnhud and i'm sure u would have given you answer as buy a Mac, cos the 1.25Ghz Dual G4 is slower than the current AMD setups and more expensive Smile and if u don't know enough about computers this kind of problem can happen to any1 Mad even a Mac User

Fellas, I understand what you all are saying. I was obviously shooting from the hip with that post. I clearly was not offering any helpful advice to Nirox, and I can see that an annoying post like mine could potentially lead to a drove of others which directly contradicts what this forum is all about. This is not a chat room, it's a place where people look for advice and genuine feedback. I will chalk this up as a learning experience.
Thanks.
