OK, I'm trying for the first time to concer reflections and lighting. Kind of intimidating, but what the hay!!
Cyborg Jedi WIP v0.1 (pre AndyT edition)
Its still very much a work in progress! What I need help with at this point is the reflections, are they in the right places?? Does it look like the reflections are comming from the lights on his body and the saber? Are there other area's we would see light reflections from the lights on his body armor?

Rotfl! Hehehehe
Actually I think that one turned out great
Reflections look great imho. Just what's going on with the left arm/hand is not easy to understand. But the colors ... wow. I didn't think it could turn out that intriguing when I saw the sketch.
Maybe because it's cropped like that the light saber isn't instantly recognizable. I'd show more of the ...?... is it "blade"? ![Wink](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) _________________ http://www.conceptworld.org |

Understandable when it comes to the blade, I can extend it rather easy. I dont want to go to far, the finished aspect I plan on being pretty wide. (I like the wide screen look for some reason!)
As for the arm, hes holding the blade in his left arm out to the left away from his body. Like his elbow is resting to a degree, kind of relazed is a better discription. Kind of like he is ready to pounce off of the wall and is just getting prepaired. The arm/fist is comming right out at the viewer.
Is there a better way to give that idea? I know it'll be difficult in the shadows/darkness of how the finished work will be.
Also, This will be my first attempt to have a work with no black lines. Not sure if I can get detailed enough with a kaka mouse. But I'm gonna give it a shot!
I'm also thinking of placing him in a poorly (very poorly) lit hallyway on a starship of some sort probably. (not sure if I want to tackle that one yet) That way there is a wall his feet are on, and a floor for his right arm. I'm also thinking of widening the shot to the left a good bit, and having some bad guys with a light source who dont exactly see the Jedi ready to attack. I havent desided on that one yet either. (All this painting stuff is fun, but kind of overwhealming!) _________________

OK, Here it goes!! UPDATE
Cyborg Jedi WIP v0.2 (semi AndyT release)
Now you can see what my plans for this work will be. I left the sketches I did for the Door, Boxes, and Storm Troopers at work. SO, this is "very" ruff version of what the end will be. I am still not very happy with the reflections on the Jedi. Hopefully after I add the other few light sources and reflections on him from them I will be happier. Any advice/C&C you might have for me at this point would be appreciated ten fold!!!!

I really love the coloring thus far. BTW i know what you mean i have to get away from my black lines as well, very hard to do. Any who only crit is the grey areas such as the mask look real flat not really metallic looking but i have no idea how to get them to look that way. Keep up the good work al. Love the ready to pounce stance ![Twisted Evil](images/smiles/icon_twisted.gif) _________________ Say would you like a chocolate covered pretzel? |

Great! The body is amazing now. Just ... are there more than two finger? And the head looks a little smudgy (that means not as good as the body)
The door in the background looks like a texture from an old 3d game. I don't know how to make it look better. I also think there's a perspective and/or composition problem. The elements are too ... isolated? ... don't know how to say it.
But imho the light above the door should not have bright red as dark and white as bright colors!
I think dark red and brighter saturated red might look better. Maybe the red color doesn't fit into the image at all?
Maybe let the color appear somewhere else if you decide to keep it.
And is the jedi alien still hidden? It doesn't look as if he's waiting for a bad guy any more!?
The poses of the others are great as well. Keep it up! _________________ http://www.conceptworld.org |

Ryknow - Its a scarry front huh!!
AndyT - (takes a deep breath) OK, I hear you on everything. When it comes to the old v-game texture door. Would allowing the light to show some of the wall/door face help? In the end it will probably end up being blurred to give it depth and focus on the Jedi. I also thought about moving everything closer together. To far apart I think right now.
And no, hes not "waiting" anymore LOL. The drawing I did that was gonna match that, just didnt "feel" right. So I did this quickly and decided its the direction I had to go. _________________

Closer together sounds good. The door might look better without any gray.
Right now the red and orange highlights further away from the lightsources are almost as bright as the ones close to it...
Well the door just shouldn't stand out so much I guess.
And about the perspective!? The fuse box suggests that the eye level is pretty low. So low that we should be able to see the jedi alian's head from below a little.
Don't know if it's an easy fix but I would choose a perspective with the eye level in the middle of the picture.
That would involve changing the boxes and the fuse box ...
But maybe I'm talking crap.
More opinions please

Yet another update.
Cyborg Jedi BETA v0.4
I shortened the width of the image as a whole. Corrected the lighting on the door, also blurred it to the desired amount (i think.) Added new highlights to the Jedi. I feel I'm getting close to done with the fuze box. I also started highlighting and shading on the Storm Troopers. (Obviosly far from done there)

C&C as always will be heard and probably used! _________________

I think the little robot jedi wold be cooler if the lighting on him was less smoothed. more abrput, like it looked earlier on. instead of smoothing every light area into a dark area, leave light area's and dark areas right next to each other with less smoothing/blending/gradienting on the jedi's body. I think the firs pic youposted in this thread looks good for his lighting reflections. Harsher, more abrupt. |

this jedi al ian kicks ass. i think it came out really good.
one thing though is: how are all the elements gonna connect? it looks like they are just layed out on the canvas without perspective.. |
