I famous artist died in my home town the other day.

His name was Koloman Sokol.

I was shocked to find out that such a tremendously talented and respected artist had lived and died in Tucson without my knowledge. I found out all too late while my fiance was reading the obituary section of the news paper. She said "Hey baby, every heard of Koloman Sokol?" I'm like "No.". Then she began to read me his obituary.... You wouldn't believe the life this man has lived, the art he's created. Since I had no idea he existed less than 24 hours ago, I've only been able to dig up a small amount of information on him.

I have managed to find a poorly worded but somewhat extensive biography about him HERE.

And this Small Stamp is sadly the only example of his work I've been able to find so far. It dates back to the 1930's.

Just goes to show ya..... Ya never know who that person is standing next to you in the line at the movies... Who that person is sitting next to you in traffic..... Could be anyone.

Now, there's a few other famous artists that live in my home town (Keith Parkinson comes to mind), but this guy Koloman was just "wow". What a life......

Anyway, if any of you folks out there know who Koloman Sokol is and/or know where I can view some more of his work. Please lead the way..... Smile

Rest in Peace Mr. Sokol.

That's why Steve Rude paid a visit to Harry Anderson in the 80's. He got to see a whole house full of unpublished paintings.

Who would you visit if you could?

I'd visit Richard Schmid.

rev sin is reverend sin is eric cherry. the guy was a photoshop genius when i was just a mere dabbler. ages ago. photoshop 3.05 justice. he taught me things and was an inspiration. then he kinda just faded away from the whole graphics thing which was a shame. he's quite an interesting character, too.

i shrug. now you know.

Art related: I'd like to have a sit down with Hajime Sorayama.

General: The man I'd most like to have a sit down with before he dies is the almighty Hugh Hefner. The stories he could tell....... What a bad ass.
